Found Mosin Nagant M39 in pawn store $450!

Sweet I got a great deal I think that old guy with a limp in the pawn store just really needed to make a sale
 
As an example, M39 are sold at classicfirearms for US 349,- as base version. Imperial eagle stamping is $25,- more. At gunbroker they are listed between 350-450. Here at the EE they sold for what bp2626 stated. 1500 is just insane.

If I was an American I would have just ordered one from gunbrokers

Not sure why they are so cheap in the USA? There is not very many of them in the world maybe Americans don't have any interest in a quality firearm and just throw them in the same bag as a Russian 91/30.
 
The bluing is gone looks like someone scrubbed it down to the metal but looks kinda cool. I have wanted one for about 3 years now so I just grabbed it. Good price I can't afford or $1000 for an old rifle. I really don't care if it's not like new.

You can get one through one of the supporting dealers...and you can get 2 for less than $1400.

Nobody has them in Canada - I think people confuse M39's with M38 Russian Carbines.

Regardless, even in the USA, the average M39 Finnish Rifle price is:

Classic Firearms got lucky, they bought the collection of rifles from a man named Pat Burns, who had his FFL (federal firearms license) revoked. He has had these M39's for 20-30 years, and only now are they being made publicly available.

So Classic HAD (now sold out of almost everything) 4 different models.

So as it stood for the base line, you had:

SAKO - $399.99 baseline price + $25 hand select/+$25 imperial eagle/+$70 SkY

VKT - $349 baseline price, plus same options as above

"SNEAK" (Which were late date M39's) $499 + $50 hang tag, +$90 unissued

B Barrel + $449 + $199 Plum barrel

So either option you get wont be cheap.

Also, let's say you go for the cheapest random select option.

That's $349.99 + shipping $45.

$394.99 US to CAD = $528.69 at the current today's rate + import fee $250 CAD = $778.69

Plus duty @ $86.92 = $866.61 and HST @ 1.13% = $978.93

Lastly, shipping within Canada @ $25.

$1003.13

And you get a beat up mystery rifle. Many people who ordered from classic have been getting rusty ones with shot out bores.

I am tired of people saying they can "get one for $399!" Great - go Import one yourself.

Hopefully you guys see all the costs involved now, and that price was for the baseline option - It will cost you more to bring in a Late date, un-issued, or B barrel.

@ pcvando, shipping within the USA is much cheaper than Canada, more like $25 than $45. Also, importing through Alberta is only 5% GST, and as both major importers operate out of Alberta, that's what you will pay.

Total price of importing a base model was under $900.

I looked into importing one and was told they charge on top of all that taxes and shipping you pay $200 USD for them to import so Canadian that's about $260. So best to still do what I did and look for 3 years and wait until you get one in your budget. The EE sometimes you can get a deal or high priced gun shows or what I did go to a pawn store that smells like feet and dicker with the pawn guy I felt like I was on pawn stars luckily he didn't really know much about gun prices in Canada. He was going on the $349 prices in the US and added the exchange and I #####ed and #####ed about the few dints in the stock and the wore metal. And he just said "$450 done just take it and get out"!
 
Also , they do pop up in Canada now and then , just not at major retailers or gunshops I guess in a while. I have seen 1 at a gunshow in the past few years and 2 privately. I owned one at one time and sold it for $550 a couple years back. It was in OK shape but nothing spectacular, wish I had of taken pics I would share them but I didn't. Good shooters though. I still think they should range from $500-$1000 absolute tops for an excellent example being the $1000. No way IMHO should a m39 break over a grand, not yet anyway.
Also a thing to remember about the prices people talk about here sometimes is not what THEY would pay just what THEY want to sell their rifles for, for example a GUY wants to sell his Yugo sks for $1500 but would NEVER pay over $750 for one , inflating prices for his benefit. This is just an example and not meant to start an argument at all.
Bottom line do your research people and try not to buy into peoples exorbitant prices , if too many people do they become the standard , no one wants that except a few greedy sellers.
Finally , It should be a good shooter for you Bendeco , for years to come and like Vando said , keep her bore bright , $450 is a good deal.

Yes, this is true, we pay an insane ammount for shipping in Canada, same with car insurance. That being said, I was just quoting "Classic Firearms" shipping price, as stated on their website for an M39, its $45 US.

I think the point I was trying to make was that an M39 will likely be close to 1k or more if you try to import it to Ontario, and you have no idea what you will be getting. ;)

I think it might also come down to people liking the rifles... a lot ;) I asked a few people if they would sell theirs, and they said "Not really, I like it a lot, but I would consider selling for ###X ammount." So I think sigrunes is right, and in the end, maybe next year, 2 years or 5 years from now, we will all be regretting not buying them at current prices.

^ Kind of dishonest of them to gouge for shipping. Maybe there is an equivalent oversize fee down there. Everything I've shipped was much smaller than a M39, that's for sure.

I'm 100% with you on that. Although lately many sellers are charging a flat rate for a rifle, often $35-45 down there. I think it is for size. Are you on GunBoards.com? Check out the WTS section, many of them do it too - even higher $.

I think it might have to do with state shipping prices, size and weight, and each state might be different, so they just opt to charge one fee.
 
Shipping is so much cheaper in the U.S. because they have a much larger and more dense population. There's just more stuff needing shipping over a smaller area and more competition. More flights, more trucks, more people. Volume cuts costs in the shipping business.

Edit - I still think we get hosed. It's the Canadian way to both hose, and claim hosing.
