M1 Garand breda receivers

They were made in the early to mid 50's by Beretta and Breda for a sizeable contract to the Denmark (Another contract went to somewhere in Africa I think). But yeah, they were very good quality. The Danish VAR barrels are sought after also.

In the late 50's, the Italians developed the BM-59 which was a 7.62x51 Garand 'Variant'. It is similar to the M14 but more, Garand like. You can find BM-59 parts floating around too.

Breda built Garands for the Danish contract in 1954/55. Altho the receivers aren't dated the Breda made barrels are, which IDs the manufacture date for the rifles. Breda built more than 10,000 Garands for sale to Denmark as established by the receiver serial numbers which run into the 10,000 plus range. Breda also supplied quite a few receivers to Beretta.

Thanks for the info! I'll see if Purple has any more info about them.

I got a BREDA receiver from SFRC and Vulcan Gun built one with Garandguy parts for me.
Haven't taken it out for some range time yet, just got brass and dies.
I notice my receiver has a crown on it, apparently it was built for Denmark.

Here it is:

Go to milsurps.com and click on the knowledge library. There is an article and picture essay there of a non-refurb matching original Breda M1.

Highest I have seen is BMR 10298

The Danish army put the M1 into service as the GM/50. Gevaer Model 1950 (ie. 1950-model rifle), initially with a stock of wartime USGI rifles. When those started showing their age, they went shopping. I have a two-digit Beretta with a 1954 original barrel. The overwhelming majority of barrels are 1955.
