Robarms XCR FAQ post

Is the XCR more reliable in any particular calibre?

As reliable as the magazines you use. Out of the package, 7.62x39 mags can be problematic.

The XCR has an adjustable gas system, which I believe is misused by some users. By that I mean, not knowing when to adjust.
I switch ammo, a lot. I buy whatever surplus x39 is available. Different ammo can run different pressure, so if I have even 1 failure, I turn the gas up. Mine runs on 1 most the time, but I've had to go up to 3 with some ammo. The most I've had to adjust would be somewhere around every 1440 rounds.

It's also piston driven, c'mon now.

@Zuk, the XCR uses a firing pin spring, or mine does. Part # XLPFPS
I know the keymod has some changes. Did they remove the spring?

I just got out shooting a new to me XCR-M with a light barrel installed yesterday and was getting stringing in my groups at 111yds. I was using Hornady SST 165grn bullets with 42, 42.5, and 43gr of H4895, as well as some 168grn HPBT hand loads and Winchester silver tip 168gr. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I checked the optic and barrel and both are snug. I am currently looking into upgrading the gas block as I understand it increases accuracy for older gen Ms. I am hoping heavier weight bullets will lessen the group sizes so I will be trying some 180gr bullets next time.

How was your setup ? Bench ? bipod ? never have that kind of stringing with my L in 7.62x39mm

Prone on a bag with a rear rest for the stock. They were very precise shots as far as point of aim goes. This has been discussed on the xcr forum with some other folks rifles and it seems that the gas tube and muzzle brake need to be replaced to make the firearm more precise. I am looking into it now.

So I contacted wolverine, and they are going to work on the rifle under warranty due to the stringing of my groups. That reflects very well on both Wolverine and Rob Arms. That kind of customer service is hard to find these days.

My xcrm is at wolverine now due to the same issue and I am looking forward to get it back and see how it shoot again.

I'm curious with the stringing, if either of you have tried adjusting the gas? Any different results?
Either tried loosening and re-torquing the barrel retention bolt?

What gas setting is each gun running?

Sorry, no answers, just curbing my curiosity.

For me I shot on both gas setting 1, 2 and 0 to see if that was the issue, but it didn't make a difference. I checked the barrel bolt and it was very tight. From what I understand it can be a loose gas tube, gas block, and/or the muzzle brake messing up the harmonics. Supposedly since the muzzle brake vents upwards a bit it can mess up the harmonics a bit. There is a thread on this in the battle rifles forum I believe. They worked on his gun and it became much more accurate. I am curious to hear what changes are made on our rifles.

Thanks guys, looking forward to the results.

What did Tyson mean by that?
The brake is no longer required? It never was.
Is RobArms getting better results without a brake? I wonder...

Brake swap. The one came with factory is good to go according from RA
I installed lantac .308 to soft the recoil since my cheek hurts after 10 rnds .308(call me a puss lol)

The stringing was cause by loose gas tube/gas block and muzzle brake combo according XCR forum
http://www.xcrforum.com/forum/25-field/17953-xcr-m-range-18.html
but Tyson @Wolverine said(word to word from email)
"The muzzle brake is no longer a required part for the conversion, said Robinson Armament"

I will update you guys once I get my xcrm back should be something next week hopefully.

Damn, I was looking forward to that 3 chamber brake... Might have to get a new one, my cheek was taking a beating as well. As long as it is not stringing I will be happy. I think these rifles will be capable of moa or better groups when we get them back.

Are both of you using the FAST stock?
If your cheek is taking a beating, isn't it more a fitment problem than a recoil problem? Just a thought.
Fwiw, I couldn't get the FAST of my gun soon enough.

Again, looking forward to results.

I much prefer my standard butt stock versus the FAST. I never cared about a folder, just comfort and ergos.

Not really, I want to use my M for precision style shooting which means I need a good cheek weld. The recoil tends to push the stock up into my cheek bone so I get a bit bruised up. I taped some velcro tape onto it in the hopes it remedies that issue. I think the fast stock is pretty darn good, but I can see myself putting a magpul PRS or something along those lines on in the future.

You want to use it for precision? Say what...;)

My opinion is, the FAST stock is not conducive to precision work. We'll leave all the other XCR accuracy jokes out of it.
Look at the lock up on other folding chassis or stocks that are built for precision. My AICS is 100% solid, without seeing the hinge you'd never know it folds. RA hasn't even come close to achieving the same. Which is fine because the rifle wasn't built for precision either.
This is all just my own opinion based on my own experience.

You'll do well swapping to a PRS or the like.

Edit to add:
I found my L to be a different rifle after swapping to Dlask/Magpul. I've got a CTR w/riser that I've custom mounted. The riser is canted slightly to the right. When I'm doing my mall ninjary, that stock is part of my face. I never had that with the FAST, it was more like what you're going through where I was getting slapped.
