Why the recent asking price increase for the model 94? Seems to me 94s that were priced around $400 - $450 not that long ago are now being listed at $500 - $550 and as high as $600. Is it supply and demand or just an arbitrary increase that has caught on?

Don't agree when it comes to Pre-64's in very good or better condition... they are "selling" for $600+ and are worth it in that condition. Chambered for less common cartridges brings a premium also... as does mint condition rifles... you will pay North of $700 for a 98% rifle... and considering the quality and compared to New Miroku rifles, that is a steal. Sure, if it is a 50% condition rifle, missing the hood, buggered screws and sloppy lever, with weavil wood... you should only be paying $300 Max as a beater for the truck or tractor...

Price is relative to condition and demand.

Interesting. So what would my mint (as new) pre-64 30.30 command?

Some of it could be that they have seen the 2016 prices for new Model 94's.

When a Take-Down is selling for $1800 and even a short rifle is going for $1450, guys/gals figure they can get a little more for their used stuff.

So if you want a Model 94 (or anything still in production) your choices are door number 1 or for half price or less, door number 2...

The bill of sale (which my Dad kept) for his 1957 Model 94 was $89 (so not based on original cost) :)

I believe you to be right on collector guns.

But for your average hunted gun, with dings, small scratches et all, they still sell in and around that 4 to 500 mark.

Guys listing your average 3030 at 600 are bumping it.

So if a 94 Miroku (replica) is selling for $1200 why would my authentic mint (as new) Winchester 94 pre not sell for at least that same amount? Is the Miroku (replica) more desirable than an authentic mint original 94? As I see it given the price tag of the Miroku replicas is only going to push up the prices of real Winchesters.

Calling a miroku a replica is a real stretch. They are still branded as winchester and are fine fine guns
And no you're not getting 1500 plus for basic old winchester.

Real Winchester were made in the USA. Replicas are being made in Japan. Call them what you want. Put a Winchester name on them.... but really are they really Winchesters?? Not in this lifetime, regardless of their quality they are actually replicas.

To each their own. Lay your hands on a new one more you will be very very impressed at the build quality, it is far superior to anything made in America in a long time, if not ever.

Maybe it's just personal taste but I could never warm up to the 94. I generally don't part with rifles but I never suffered any sellers remorse in moving the ones I've owned down the road. No disrespect to 94 fans but I think pre Remington marlin's are far nicer irons. I guess if you are a 94 fan, they are worth current asking prices but not for me.

Nobody is bumping anything... it will always be supply and demand... inflation is a factor and part of the little spike now is our low dollar and the much higher cost of new imports.

A real nice old pre-64 for $600 is a good deal. The new ones are gorgeous. I would love to have one of the new takedown 94's. I hunt whitetail with a 1958 94 .32 Special.

Each to his/her own. :)
