Why a 9mm AR?

I'm not dumping on them or anything, just wondering what the attraction is. Cheap ammo? The best SMG/PDW available with 10 round mags? More fun for CQB close range blasting without the recoil and muzzle blast of a rifle cartridge? Something else?

Cheap ammo and I could use it on the pistol calibre range while standing without a fixed firing line at the range I was at. Rifle calibre was limited to seated at a bench on the rifle range. It meant I could actually practice CQB stuff. Don't have that issue now with the new range but still like the sub gun feel.

Yup, it's the indoor thing for me -- although we currently are getting an indoor rifle range.
I can't shoot a handgun at 25 metres with any accuracy (my eyesight is going) so hand-gun rifles are the next best thing.

also because we can't have MP5s I want a MP5

Well there are MP5-ish options other than the AR...

But 9mm ARs are very cool as well... Just different.

For me it's all about cost. I can reload for 9mm much more cheaply than 5.56mm and if shooting bulk factory ammo, 9mm remains substantially cheaper than 5.56mm.

Still, I wouldn't get the 9mm AR as it's restricted. I'd prefer to look to one of the many 9mm carbines that is non-restricted.

It's surprising how many people do 90% or more of their shooting at a range which makes owning a restricted a non issue. There really aren't any non restricted options out there that are half the gun an AR is.
The best pistol caliber carbines I've owned are the HK USC and the Kriss Vector but they were both in 45auto which isn't much cheaper to shoot than 223. I would like to get my hands on one of the new gen 2 Vector's in 9mm but at $2000 I won't be buying one and I'll just keep my 9mm AR.

Becouse they probally already have one in .223,.22,7.62x39 it's just another reason to get another ar15.

And they are a lot of fun.

I used to shoot 9mm AR15 more because reloading 9mm is just a mindless task. But 9mm is not 556, the training value is not the same.

I haven't shot mine for awhile....haven't even touched my colt 10.5 upper that I bought over a year ago. I do think t it is a good idea to keep a 9mm around, it is a good indoor gun and inexpensive way to take newbies out on a shooting day.

As much as I like the colt SMG for what it is, the MPX is the future in this category.

And of course the 10mm Kriss that is in the work.

I would love to have a 9mm AR, Would also love to have it non restricted. My range is 80k away. I bought a cx4.

We do for one. (8 ball above is my personal CGN handle) We currently have 3 guns on order, a 9mm SMG, a 7" 5.56mm AR, and and a 10.5" 7.62x39 AR. Sounds like they are currently about 2 to 3 months away.
