my first gun when i was growing up on the farm - Cooey Model 39 single shot.
that gun got destroyed from years of use and riding on the metal rack of the Honda Big Red Trike.
couple years ago i stripped the stock and re oiled it so my kids could learn to shoot on it, gun is a tank, runs like its brand new.

my uncle gave me this old Cooey 60, was a massive step up from the Cooey 39.

i have fond memories of my dad shooting that 82.
id be out there with my 1984 Ruger 10/22 with my 25 round mags and id be blazing away - chasing gophers back to their holes with 10 round bursts and my dad would just pop off one and head shot the gopher.
then off to the next one we'd go.

so i went from the Cooey 39 to the Cooey 60 then settled on this 1984 Ruger 10/22 that i got for my birthday in 1984.
if i had to guess id estimate the round count of this ruger 10/22 to be over 100k easy.

I bought a Ranger single when I was 13/14 and used it for many years. Would take my .25 cent allowance to the corner store and get a box of shorts. Hundreds of rabbits became supper and thousands of gophers bit the dust. Many 22s have come and gone but I still own this one. It seldom gets used due to open sights and high volume gopher shoots. A $5 or 10 gun that is not for sale :) My sons learned to shoot on sleeved Stevens Favorites they never seemed to miss the big mags ( hard to miss what you never had ). Even in there teen years when we were in pastures with only a gopher every couple minutes they would try to get a Ruger #3 in Hornet or 223.

I like many spent time at an uncles farm in the summers and grew up shooting an old Cooey military training 22, they also had a Browning Trombone pump which I'm still in love with. Mom married my step dad when I was 7 and for first anniversary she gave him a Marlin model 81, it held 25 shorts, 20 lr and 18 lrs that gun became mine and accounted for hundreds of bush bunnies and Jacks. as a kid I got paid 5 cents a tail for gophers and accounted for many a thousand. that was my spending money. It was next my fancy 22s the most accurate 22, terrible trigger. I have such fond memories of that rifle which I still have :))) that I now have 6 of them and can't seem to pass one up if the price is right. I love the tube feds esp now that EZ loaders are available.

I didn't come from a shooting family, so I never grew-up shooting anything but slingshots and air rifles. Fast forward about 30 years...I bought a Cooey 75 (sold that) and then a year back...a very pretty old Cooey 39 in great condition. Only issue with it is that the front sight isn't original. Beautiful light, sweet-shooting gun but my (soon to be) 47 year old eyes like open sights less and less with each passing year. I have a great old Bushnell scopechief 2.75X I'd love to mount on it...so toying with altering the 39.

I think Deerdr has an old 39 drilled on top for a scope.
Be the gatto's jammies if one could do it cheap 'nuff.
