Hi I'm considering a couple of rifles for varmint and plinking but I don't know which one.
I already have a little 22lr marlin 795 which I have no problem hitting targets at 200-250y and I have a savage 10 fcp-sr in 308 where the fun starts at 500y.
You see where I'm going, I would like to buy a rifle that would give me more possibility for ranges of 200 to 400y.

I was thinking of another rimfire, I've had a 17hmr but sold it since it catches wind too much imo so I thought of a 22 mag could be a good choice.
I have in mind:
The CZ combo 22lr and 22mag that could be versatile.
The CZ Canadian edition in 22wmr seems like a good choice and it looks gorgeous but after shooting it in a windy Sunday pm the 22 mag doesn't have much increased accuracy or punch at 300y than my 22lr. We were shooting on a 12"gong and the sound as well as the gong movement led me to this conclusion.
Soooo...the CZ canadian is a hell of a nice rifle but I'm still wondering what caliber, if I'm able to do everything my 22lr can do with a 22mag what's the point? Also I bought many firearms and sell pretty much all of them just to keep the one I find a use and like best and I would prefer that the story doesn't repeat itself.

That being said I'm maybe leaning towards a 223 which is still not too expensive to shoot.
The models I'm considering:
CZ 527 and seems like a nice rifle detachable mag, set trigger, 24'' barrel...the stock on some model seems really nice but some others aren't imo the price is a bit steep.
Weatherby vanguard
Savage 11 lightweight hunter or maybe a hog hunter which is compact and lightweight.
I owned two savage and still have one I would like to try something else.
I have looked a lot at the keltec su-16 in 223 that could be another great choice for plinking up to 400y and varmint shooting. Although it is semi auto precision could be affected as opposed to a bolt but it's light and would probably mount a pistol grip on it which would cost a hell less than a whole stock on a rifle...

Any other model I should consider?

Buddy of mine just bought a Browning X-bolt in 223, shoots great and action runs smooth. Not a browning fan myself but can't deny that it runs really well. Shoots Horn 55gr Vmax into ragged holes at 100yds. It annoys me how well it shoots, haha

I'm looking at a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 223, would be right around the same price as the 527. Comes with detachable 4 rd mag as well.

I picked up a Mossberg MVP in .223/5.56 last year...I was surprised, nice little rifle for the $$$ (I think I picked it for 500$ here on EE NIB). Shoots under MOA (5/8") out of the box with Norinco bulk ammo (spam cans). What's nice about it it has free float semi bull barrel (fluted), uses AR mags (so you get 10 rounds), the adjustable trigger is nice too.

Maybe try some trailboss and some cheaper plinking Bullets in the .308

Please explain what you mean by trailboss.
308 I did it at first and it was fun but now I have a guy reloading for me and I get 3/4 to 1/2 moa so I don't consider running cheap stuff.
Even cheap stuff would be cheaper with a 223.

Pics of the 5/8" groupings?

My Tikka T3 Varmint has been my most accurate rifle Ive ever owned..Ive owned many. If you are after a varmint gun, it must be able to shoot bug holes, the SU 16 is a far cry from a varmint gun. CZ would be a good choice as well as would a HB Savage.
Just as important as a good rifle is the glass on top, for a dedicated varmint gun Id start looking at glass in the 1K range.

Cheers!!

I might go to the range this friday, I can take that rifle with me and take some 5 shot groups if you want.
If I don't go this friday, I'm definately going next friday.

I've been eyeing a Ruger Hawkeye Varmint Target as my reward for a job well done. Just need to find the job to complete and the money for the reward.

Do it up, Id love to see surplus hitting sub moa.

Trailboss is a low velocity powder. Easy on brass and barrels

Ok thanks for clarification.
The thing is that the fun I have with my 308 is doing long range. I have no issue hitting steel at 400-500m as opposed to low quality ammo where I'm not learning from my error since the bullet is not consistent. The effect of wind is much easier to compensate with a 308 than a 223 or 22 so that's mainly my goal.

I've go my eyes on the weatherby vanguard compact shoots sub moa 20'' barrel and weight 6 3/4lbs msrp 599$
The only thing is to find one!
It's light and accurate I've read and saw really good reviews of this rifle.
would need mag conversion and maybe a timney trigger since the series 2 has an adjustable one but who knows.
