Why does everyone give the axis a hard time?

I would carry a spear first..

Based on the couple of Axis I've handled and the one I've shot I agree 100%...

If it's all you can afford it will pump out rounds effectively enough, but if you can spend more I'd recommend spending it.

Call me a snob if you must, but I feel a firearm should be well built and a display of the skill and craftsmanship of the maker. After all it is controlling an explosion very close to my face, I want something well made not something that's just good enough...

haters gonna hate G:

Lol.... They can't even get the mag to seat properly for a marketing photo.....

The Axis is the Tercel of the gun world. Sure, it's ugly and it's cheap; but it works. It does what it was designed to do. It allows people of modest means to get into the sport. What's wrong with that?

Well if one looks back. You can see the Rem 700 come out circa 1962. By 1964, the sales had swung so far to Remington that Winchester threw out their entire line of pre-64, wheterh that was the M70, M94, M88, M100, M12....etc. Not really sure when the timeline came in, but into this mix came Savage with the Model 110. The Savage Axis is basically a budget rifle from already cost cutting and budget rifle company.

Good point, and the Short action Savage came out in 1959 according to my Shooters Bible and Wiki

Pretending that it's as good rifle as any other out there. It's not. It's falling far behind Ruger American for example even though both of them are classified as the "value line" rifles.

And they seem to be the same price now too. Literally no reason to buy an Axis at all....it's not even the cheapest of the cheap rifles anymore.

I have lots of other brands and would buy a savage anytime. The inexpensive part makes it a real hunting gun because you're not so worried about finish and dings. Nowadays everyone thinks they are Canada's top sniper. And because of that are EQUIPMENT snobs.

these are basically the equivalent of a Honda civic .
inexpensive and accurate and easily tinkered with .

and recently these where still going for under three hundred dollars .... NEW .
lots of nonowners keep trying to inflate what these rifles can be bought for in order to further their negative comments .......

did all these people get sick of putting down sks owners and now chosen to pick on savage rifle owners ?

like I said before all this negativity stifles creativity .

I have one....and the quality of components, design of the rifle in general, and ergonomics are all POS territory.
It's light and shoots OK, only redeeming qualities it has. Everything else about it sucks.
I initially put a $50 EGW rail on...not expensive but good quality. I felt bad for the rail.....swapped it out for a $20 MagWedge that is more the quality of the rifle. I couldn't even bring myself to put a good piece of glass on it...although I did toss the package scope that came with it, the best I felt the rifle deserved was a $60 3-9x40 Banner...
I'll be selling it soon, at a loss no doubt, as soon as I can find a nice 7-08 to replace it.

Right funny, that is!
