MERGED. Type 81 is on its way to Canada. Classed as RESTRICTED

Isn't there a Type 81NS aswell??

What's the NS? Is that the one for European markets?

Type 81 (7.62 mm assault rifle with a fixed butt)[3]
Type 81-1 (7.62 mm assault rifle with a foldable butt)[3]
Type 81 LMG 7.62 mm squad machine gun[3]
Type 81S Early semi-automatic only model for the U.S. market. Extremely rare, under 10 were imported before further importation was discontinued by executive order in 1989.
Type 87-1 (5.8×42mm experimental assault rifle, used to develop and test 5.8 mm DBP87 cartridge for QBZ-95 rifle)
Type 87 5.8 mm squad machine gun (prototype)
Type 81 Tactical Tactical variant used by the PAP
CS/LR14 Newest tactical upgrade with considerable modifications, such as tactical rails, foregrip, additional mountings, etc. Said to be chambered for the heavier 7.62×51mm.
NAR-10 Tactical variant for export.
NR-81S Reincarnation of the Type 81S, made primarily for the European Market.

Clearly there are other models not listed too, such as the "under folder."

Good ol Wikipedia.

Yes I suppose it's not the most reliable but it's one of the few places with model designations.

Do you know what the 81NS is? Is that the folder?

Never heard of it before. Bfiles mentioned it.... maybe he can say where he heard it.

NS has been a North Sylva designation before, but they haven't actually used any term or even mentioned or acknowledge pursuing this type yet. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. All a guess.

It was posted on the link to you sent me fenceline

The one on the Emei website? Forgot about that one.

North Sylva does deal with Emei, as do other importers. North Sylva does like the NS suffix on their models, and the Type 97 was built by Emei as well and imported by North Sylva.

But again, North Sylva has been silent on whether they have plans or not.

For those interested, the Emei firearms website is emfirearms dot Com. Before anyone gets excited, the website hasn't been updated in some time, the contact emails addresses are broken or unanswered, and the link affiliation is unknown and unverified. They have a link to sfrc but not sure if they are just a fan or actually have business ties to SFRC.

I also spoke to a friend of mine who travels to China a lot, and he said he has been a short version in the HK (Hong Kong) Police Museum. He said it was kind of like a 74U to get perspective. He will try to dig up pics.

Edit: He found the pic, turns out its just a really beat up and old rusty 74U... :(

That is great because pos north sylvan has that sick contempt on Chinese product they import and those product made them millions of dollars. It is nice to have TI and CanAm in the game who actually cares about reputation.
Tactical Imports, again, is the only one confirmed to date.

Canada Ammo says they want to, but only Tactical Imports is listed on the frt as an importer. A dominion arms would be a seperate frt entry but wouldn't likely need a long winded frt exam.

Marstar hinted at interest. North sylva has been quiet.

Different brands, new parent frt entries. Not a big deal though, there are dozens of frt entries for the chinese m14 series.
