Tikka barrel options

Anyone know where I can find a heavy barrel aftermarket to install on my t3 lite in 30-06. Is it possible to install a 308 heavy varmit? Or anyone know of any custom manufacturing places in Canada or that will import that sell heavy match barrels?

Mystic precision, bighorn sale aka Gary Eakin. Buy a barrel blank in the profile you like and have a gunsmith chamber and install for you.

Pick a brand you like in the contour and twist you want and take it to your favorite gun smith and have him spin it on for you.

^^^ as above. Barrels are not 'gun specific'. Buy what you want and the gunsmith will do the rest!
I suspect this will be your first re-barrel? If so, pay attention to contour and twist rate so that (a) it fits your stock, an (b) it matches the bullets you want to use.

You can put any brand of barrel you want.
The Tikka actions don't need alot of work to perform well. Most of them are pretty straight from the factory.

Mine was built with a *Rem style* quarter inch thick steel recoil lug.

Pac-Nor and probably others makes nice pre-fit barrels in 30.06 and other calibres for Tikkas in various cpontours.

PS, the above barrel is huge and would stress the repeater action.

Most would not put such a heavy barrel on hunting rifle repeater action. Rem. Varmint would be preferable or light to heavy varmint max.

Plz explain us what is wrong with a heavy profile barrel on a repeater action such as the T3 ?
Its not I don't beleive you but I want to learn something here...
I think to rebarrel my Tikka M595 next winter so i'm following this with interest.

I must admit, the barrel on my T3 was too big for nothing, mine was very heavy and especially front heavy even if it was only a 20 inches long if I remember well.
The barrel was so heavy, the 308 felt like a 223 ! That was the good part !
IMO ideal profile for a T3 build would be something like a TRG profile but slightly bigger and with fluting ( for look and functions )

All barrels put stress on actions and that is why most top FClass and BR types use single shot actions which are stiffer. This is ancient news as it was USA BR shooters who developed their own single shot actions after struggling with Mauser 98 and Win.70 actions for years. Many top BR shooters were machinists who also made inline seater dies and most of their own kit. Of course Rem 700 and others can be made to shoot well, but a single shot can handle more the extra stress of heavy barrels and will give less problems over time.

Usually those with repeaters limit the weight of the barrels and can for sure get top results with Rem Varmint contour or the lighter range of "MTU" barrels.
