One of the forum sponsors has CZ 75 Shadow Line on sale at a significant discount ($1499 marked down to $1179) Can anyone school me as to the differences between this gun and a SP-01 Shadow at $999? (other than the obvious....cosmetics.... lack of rail etc). Is the Shadow Line a better made/more finely finished model?..... more work done to the trigger?

For general range use and perhaps IPSC at some point would the Shadow Line have any advantage over the Shadow for the extra $179?

The obvious additions which you are aware of - aluminum grips, flush safety, stainless guide rod (for sp01), and different hammer (I think a few others minor mods) - add a bit to the cost. Can't speak to the tuning as I have heard some conflicting stories (but if it has been tuned, it is minor as I couldn't tell a different over the stock shadow when i tried one). 2 years ago, the shadow-lines were only about $100 more than the regular shadows, which basically was a direct reflection of these upgrades. CZ seems to be constantly tweaking various models so maybe there is more to shadow-lines today.

If you like the upgraded parts and styling (I do), that deal is probably worth it, but I wouldn't be under any illusions that you are getting a higher grade, hand-crafted product over a stock shadow. At 1500 retail price for the shadow-line, I wouldn't consider it and would go straight for a Canadian. Again, assuming the shadow-lines haven't changed in the past 2 years.

If you want the rail, get the Shadow - I have one and it's awesome

I'm buying the SL because I like the classic lines and the Shadow trigger. I have no illusions as to it being better fettled than the SP-01 Shadow

Those flush safeties and grips aren't cheap in the aftermarket, I note.

You can see here http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...dow-Shadowline-Questions?highlight=shadowline for past discussions on shadow Vs Shadowline; if you search, you will find several other threads on the subject.

1179 for a Shadowline is a good price; 1500 is definitely way too much (I see Wolverine has it for 1330)

Yes, I saw Wolverine's price after I posted. Either $1499 is some sort of MRSP that nobody actually sells for or Bulls Eye is an expensive place to shop!

So it sounds like it's mostly cosmetics.....sort of like paying a bunch of money for a "sport" package on a car that's mostly pin striping, fancy wheels and a spoiler.;)

Think I'll pass

I purchased the regular Shadow after trying the high priced version and really could not feel a difference with the trigger and am delighted with it
