Anyone use BB replicas to practice?

For those of you who can't go to the range all the time, have any of you purchased a replica of your pistol to shoot BB's for practice or do you all use snap caps? I doubt it would be practical to use snap caps outside your home in the back yard....however with the BB's you could do actual target practice and draw shots.

I do both at home. I have a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow and a matching ASG CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow replica. Holster, draw, mag change and dry fire practice with the real one. Holster, draw, mag change and shoot BBs out of the replica. I use a Crosman target trap to catch and recycle the BB's.

I do both. The BB guns for the basement range and snap caps for the real stuff. Any trigger time is better than none. It also helps teach the kids because the replicas don't always have the same weight. So the kid can practice holding and aiming and not worry about weight. This will give them more instant gratification and less frustration.

BB guns don't have the level of accuracy to make any sort of practice with them worthwhile. Well at least not where accuracy is a desired factor. 3 inch groups at around 4 yards isn't something to crow about. And that's what I've seen from the one I've got.

Being new I can't have a proper Walter PPK. So when I found a BB version with operating slide and all metal construction I bought it to ease my inner Walter Mitty. But in practice it was a total disaster for any sort of accuracy. With regular guns I can do better than 3inches at 4 yards with my eyes closed. Hell, even a SHOTGUN is better than that! ! ! So now it only comes out to hold in my hand and sigh over what might have been if I'd gotten into firearms a decade earlier.

Now a PELLET pistol can be a whole other thing. If the gun has a rifled bore and shoots pellets the accuracy is going to be a lot better. I repaired a S&W CO2 clone revolver for a friend and shot it a bit with some pellets I had. For indoor plinking it was perfectly acceptable. It wasn't comparable to a match grade .22 like my S&W Model 17 but it produced decent groups at around 10 yards of around 2 inches with the odd flier.

Well I picked up an HK45 replica .177 BB. Once it gets here I will see how it groups. Pistol, 4000 rounds, 25 co2, and spare mag for less than 150 bucks.....not gonna argue.

BB or airsoft guns can be great for training if used properly, they can replicate the real thing well enough for most basic drills without the need for a proper range. They're no substitute for the real thing, but most of us don't have unlimited ammo budgets and can't always get out to the range as often as we'd like.

I tried one of those Blackwater 1911 all metal blown back, that was setup like my 1911. It was good for holster draw and fire. But the trigger was no where the same, Also the safety didnt like click engage. It was fun to do fun mini IPSC matches but thats about all I got from it. Reloading wasn't even the same.
