Precision/Sniper/Tactical

Now that is a sniper rifle!
I'd be so tempted to get one, just finding a place close enough to shoot would be a pain. I found a 1100m spot, maybe 1600m, but I'd want 2k for a 50. Then add the ammo up, and I'll always be broke haha.

I haven't found a place local that reaches out much further than 1km. Going to drive out to Merritt this weekend and hopefully have a little fun :)

Congrats on the LRT-3! I have a new .50 on the way that I'm excited to get.
Lots of good spots around Merritt, Savona, Kamloops etc. be carefull if you are shooting certain types of surplus ammo. Pretty arid in that region if you get my drift. The LRT-3 is a very smooth shooting .50. It doesnt fatigue you like an HS.50 does.

Thanks! You have some experience with the LRT-3, can you tell the difference between the different variations or what prompted the changes?

I noticed some had a slightly different chassis designs and that's a Cadex thing I guess, but I also noticed some LRT-3s had fluted barrels, others had a stepped barrel. Mine's neither, just a giant barrel with a taper on it.

There were also different muzzle brakes and I noticed that PGW switched over from Atlas bipods to LRA units.

I think the differences were based upon evolutionary changes in Cadex's stock design and re-evaluation of the bipod and brake after extended use in the field.
My buddy had the first Cadex version stock with the clam shell brake and Atlas bipod. I think Cadex did a nice job on removing the bulk from the previous Gen stock with the new version. The Atlas bipod was far to light for a platform of this size and weight. The LRA was a logical replacement. The previous brake was effective but required removal to use the can. It was a cast part that was poorly finished (from its manufacturer). The new (B&T?) brake is a far nicer unit. It is high quality and does a terrific job mitigating recoil and more importantly muzzle blast. It is also threaded for the can to be used with the brake in place (not like this matters to us).
Mine had the fluted barrel however these were very short in length and were of no value other than cosmetics. It seemed like the were only fluted for a while because my buddies LRT-3's (bought before and after mine) were not fluted.

All LRT-3's that I have handled (albeit only 3 of them) were bedded to the stocks. Cadex claims its un-necessary but I didn't mind it being done.

Be cautious working up your loads (if reloading). I think I ended up around 215gr of H50BMG under 750gr A-maxs. This is a significantly less charge weight than I was using in my Steyr HS.50.

That is a wealth of information, thanks! Yes, I was a bit sad that there was a long empty slot in the foam that was clearly reserved for something fun, lol!

So, now I'm just curious what 50 you have on the way :)

This just arrived on Friday. Going to drive out to Merritt with a couple of buddies next weekend and muck around a bit :)

What rifle is that? What bipod do you use? That's so gorgeous!

Oh man I can't wait to start doing stuff to my Remington. Here's what I've got planned

Rifle is a Remington 700 SPS tactical AAC-SD 16.5" chambered in .223. Went with 223 for a few reasons. Easy move to that from 22lr which I shoot a lot of. Cheap ammo, long barrel life, no recoil, overall joy to shoot.

McMillan A5
Vortex Viper PST 6-24 (can't decide on sfp or ffp)
ATRS rings

anyone running a Remington 700 with a 16.5" barrel in a McMillan A5? Wondering how much barrel is sticking out of the stock.

this is my 700 5r in .308
- accuracy international ax chassis
- NF nxs 5.5-22 x 56
- Barret zero gaps
- TriggerTech
i have since swapped the brake for a Precision Armament M11 severe duty.

Merritt's a nice place if you want to stretch out. We only had time to shoot out to 750m, but there are definitely places to set up a 2km shot. Anyway, the weather turned out okay and the lighting is way better than my laundry room so here's another photo dump:

Not so much lower mainland, about 3 hours away.

Nice video, the swirl is always awesome! You just need a better steel rack haha.

Definitely, lol! When we were zeroing it at 100m, we had to walk down and hang it up after every shot:

Yeah, the 50 knocked it off at 100m, 500m, and 750m. There was definitely space to shoot out to 1km and even 2km, but we were running out of light and it was a long friggin drive back. Next time we'll go back with a target that we don't need to reset after every shot, lol!
