I bought a Sightron 10-50x (with modified 1/8 MOA turrets) from Jerry a while back for a new rifle I am putting together, which will probably come together in the next 4 months. It was sitting in a box for the last 2 months so I decided to mount it on my current rifle, which has a Nightforce 12-42x. After 5 rounds to sight the scope in my first 5 round group was 0.182 MOA (see below) in a 4 mph crosswind! Normally the best I can do is around 0.5 MOA on an absolutely still day, so this was a significantly better result. I shot 5 more groups to confirm the original result. As someone mentioned before the covers are crap but the scope is terrific.

So you are stating the scope made you shoot better?

Was the reticle more fine? What contributed to the better group?

Amazing group. Good work.

I was out shooting twice per week for the last 5 weeks, then last week I decided to switch out the scope. That is all that changed. The reticle is not finer, it's different. The cross hairs stop short of intersecting, then in the very middle is a small dot. Maybe that helped me focus better; not sure.

The 10X50 is indeed a cool scope, it's my marmott scope on my varmint rig, i have the dot reticle... JP.

Yea, Ive used that reticle before, it's a good one. Just trying to understand how it made you shoot better though.

Do you find the dot allowed you to better hold on your target? More precise?

Good for you.

One of the features built into the sightrons that many competition shooters enjoy is consistent POI ie, the scope holds its zero.

Unfortunately, this is something that has plagued many brands over the years leading to the "freezing" you can read about in the SR BR circles.

In case you don't know what Freezing a scope means, quite literally, the elevation and windage adjustments are glued solid so they cannot move. The scope is adjusted by external mounts which can be made more robust and locked up when adjustments are made.

Whether the OP's NF suffers from this, I cannot say but if all that was done was change the scope... send it in for a review. Scopes wear and things can break down with use,

If you use your scope enough, especially with high recoil, send the scope in periodically for some TLC. Chat with the manf and ask their techs their opinion on this.

I just shipped in my primary SIII10-50 custom reticle LRMOA scope similar to the OP's. This has been my primary scope since the 2013 Worlds but after 11,000plus rds of heavy bullet 308 useage, I sent it in for a complete tune up. The scope worked just fine BUT... the last thing I want is something to fail at the next Worlds.

Nothing lasts forever.

Jerry

PS... great shooting Mike. Glad the scope is working as intended. The caps are indeed junk and now Sightron includes a scope cover instead.

I found the dot really helped the concentration

I also love my SIII / FFP that I purchased form Gerry. The only problem I have is I have to watch the Horizontal Turret it moves on its own during firing 1 or 2 rounds. It is mounted on a Tikka T3 HB in .223 with a Grizzly muzzle brake. And that is a nice group you will have confidence in your new scope.Good Luck.

do you mean the turret cover moves or that your POI moves?

The cap has 3 allen key bolts that you tighten to hold it all in place. simple.

If the poi shifts, then it needs to get fixed cause it shouldn't.

Jerry

Yes, I love the floating dot in the center. It makes my eye focus on that dot well. It makes me more confident that the bullet will hit under the dot diameter.
