308 win semi auto powder options

I am looking for a good readily available powder to reload my semi automatic 308 win. The powder will have to meter well becuase I will be using a progressive press and not weighing each load.

My goto powders, IMR 3031 and IMR 4895 depending on bullet weight.

 

[Ganderite]

A fine stick powder like RL15 meters well. 4895 is ok.

Best is a ball powder, like H335, BLC2, 748, H380.

Also CFE223 which is a fine ball powder very similar to BLC2. These two are relatively slow powders so are good for 168 gn bullets and heavier. Try 335 and Benchmark for the lighter projectiles.

Try all/any of IMR3031, 4895, 4064, H4895, W748 or BLC2, especially in a Garand or M14 type.

Not sure the availability, but IMR 8208 XBR was all I used when I had rifles, including semis (223 & 308)

he asked about powders that meter well. 3031 and 4064 are large sticks that do not meter as well as fine stick powder or ball.

H322 meters very good threw my 650.

Benchmark also works pretty well in 308Win and meters pretty good.
