Why Do Some Semi's Not Like Hollow Point Ammo?

Why would a semi auto rifle have Failure to feed / extract / fire due to the bullet being hollow point and not have those issues with round nose?
When you compare a hollow point to a round nose the only difference is the small hole in the center of the bullet.
Thx

The times I've had issues with HP in my rimfire guns is where the HP has a rather blunt and even squar'ish nose on the bullet. The two you show are somewhat more rounded and most of my rimfire semis would likely be OK with those.

It is not the only difference. The tip of the bullet (the ones you posted at least) is flatter.

22's are notorious jammers anyway. (yes there are exceptions, i get it).

Go back to the 80's and 90's and the advent of hollowpoint pistol ammo an the absolutely controversy and issues surrounding getting HP ammo to feed reliably in an auto pistol. The Remington 185 grain JHP, the 200gr Speer "flying ashtray".

Glock and Sig got it right early on, but it took a while for many manufacturers to get up to speed.

I suspect 22's will be like that for a long time to come, since nobody considers a 22 semi for serious work (and solids are prob more appropriate if you were to use it for that purpose) so we get chit ammo (that's not very cheap) and some expensive stuff that is priced like centerfire and everyone hoards so you can't find it anyway.

I use 22 for revolvers and self shuckers and forgo the autos for this round. Less headaches.

Yellow Jackets are the only ones I've ever had issue with. Shape of the projectile is funky, also a bit hotter than a lot of .22

I'm going to guess that you will find that if you grab the projectile on the ones you are having a problem with, that they are "loose" in the brass. If they wiggle, they will cant off to one side during feed and then jamb. I save those for the bolt gun and use the ones with firm crimps in the semi.

All the ammo I have is loose - win333, federal auto match , win x, cci and federal gold medal ....checked them all and they all
Have a wiggle To them ... I only have roun nose Hp so maybe I won't find any problems with them.

I'm not sure why this became a double post - I hope the mods delete the other one :s

Can some one post a pic example of hollow points that cause this trouble mostly. The Remington is a good example but is there others ?

Are win 333, win super X and cci hollow points trouble makers ?

It's not just semis. My wife's CZ 455 with her 25 round mag won't feed blunt hps. Flawless mag with everything else.

My bolt cycles just about everything pretty flawlessly. That being said winchester 333 rounds get caught on the edge of my chamber if I don't hold the mag up while closing the bolt. They have a very large hollow point and a flatish nose on the front.

IMO and experience, anything that comes in a bulk-pack is inconsistant at best. It's almost as if they took the rejects from off the line and tossed them in a box...... I've had a couple of boxes of Win 333's that should have been trashed, let alone fired.

I've had the best experience with CCI's HP's.

I had problems with my S&W M&P22. The ejector actually broke off, because some flat pointed Sellier & Bellot ammo wouldn't ride the feed ramp consistently. Anything round nosed works fine, but I'm sticking to copper jacketed just to be sure.

I was Looking at the win333 and win super X and they look the same. Both says super X on the head stamp.are they different? Because they sure don't look it

333 is Super X... Just the B-Roll stuff off the assembly line. Considering Super X isn't that great to start with...

Hmm I hope my savage 64 tr sr likes the win 333 stuff because I have 3 packs of it :s

Only way to find out is shoot it more. Seriously, less questions and more Pew Pew Pew. Time to start finding things out for yourself. Than people telling you YES.

I run win 555 ( same as 333 ), Golden bullets, Dynapoints. Some jam more than others. But depends on my gun. Or amount of oil.

If the win333 sucks in my semi I'd just trade it for round nose OR sell it and order a few of those 525 bulk packs of blazer from SFRC when it's back in stock. Can't go wrong st 23.99$ for 525! I hope that comes back in stock.
