Why we hunt.

It's entertainment.
The fact is those guys go hunting to make TV shows.
Nobody except Yukon residents with all the horses and gear goes on horseback hunting trips to the Yukon to "provide" for their family. Everybody else had to hire a guide or be lucky enough to have a Yukoner friend to take them on a special permit.
They can pontificate and philosophize all they want, but the fact remains that their hunting is a commercial enterprise, it' s not Joe Blow going hunting to put a roast in the oven.

Rugdoc nailed it. First pass I liked this, then I was forced to face the pretty glaring faults in it. Seen this before, and while sentimental and cute, it sure does a great job of cropping out the legally mandated guide and poses this as if they're doing it themselves. Some pretty curious packing arrangements as well. Beautifully produced, but they went one step too far in misrepresentation to where they're easily exposed as misleading and false. They should have stopped at saying it's humanity's oldest tradition, it's built into or DNA, we love it, and it has fantastic benefits for both wildlife and hunted alike.
Hopefully it does convert some folks, goodness knows the anti's stretch the truth on their side far further.

Rug Doc, could not agree with you more!! My Buddy went to Facebook(I have Zero Interest) and pronounced to all how much he loved his wife on their 25th wedding anniversary and could not understand when I said it meant sh..t If he would have told her in private that he loved her, that was worth a million facebook likes...... he didn't get it. I lead a very private life and have passed that to my kids. I get it!!

Seems to me the video posted by the OP almost exactly copies a video that was produced a few years ago, almost word for word. One that was better produced by a long shot IMO.
The Canada In The Rough guys have always rubbed me the wrong way. They are far from original. What happened to the original host Thomas Pigeon?
But in the end, these videos are all just made for TV or Youtube and there is a lot of the story that is missing, but I get the point they are trying get across.

? Of course it's entertainment - I don't think anyone was mistaking that for a campaign ad or documentary. When I watch Band of Brothers, I don't sit there and grumble that the actors never served or (presumably) knew real discomfort in the field, I think "wow, what a good portrayal of men in combat."
These guys are from ON originally, I believe, but now live in BC. So what if they'd shown themselves whitetail hunting in NWO or mulie hunting in the Cariboo? To me the where and how is irrelevant here - the piece isn't titled "How we hunt," it's "why we hunt", and I'm inclined to take a bunch of life long hunters at their word when they say what motivates them. The fact they've made a successful commercial enterprise out of it doesn't speak to their motivation for hunting at all - actually, it probably does, because you'd have to be nuts to start off with a career plan that relied on the outdoor industry to make a million bucks
I don't think they meant that video quite as literally or specifically as you're taking it.
But hey, if anyone has a better video to share with the non hunting public to explain the attraction, please post it!

Um, just to point it out, but you know that marriage ceremonies are public and done in front of friends and family for the exact same reason, right? To publicly profess your love for each other and let the community witness it. Otherwise I guess they'd be done in a basement, or some sort of soundproof room. Did YOU get married in a broom closet? What do you think you wife's reaction would be if you suggested a wedding in the garage with just you, the JP and her, because it means so much more in private?
I'm not saying this is your case, but it seems tremendously self centred and arrogant to tell your buddy that something apparently important to him "meant sh*t" just because that's your view. My buddies do a lot of things for and with their wives that I think are nuts. You know what I say? "Oh, that's great" or "hope you guys have a great time." They're all (mostly) big boys, they can make their own decisions, and they don't need their friends criticizing them.
