First 9mm

It's tempting to jump into the church of CZ (SP-01) straight away....which is usually when I start to study alternatives.
The HK USP 9mm and Walther PPQ M2 Navy are the other two I've been thinking about & researching.

I'm more than likely to just shoot paper with it alongside my rifles (and look at it while going "oooh aaah"), though I'm tempted to give IPSC a try.

Thoughts?
I'm guessing the Walther is the odd one out in this treo, but I've read great things about the trigger.
 
Agree about steel vs plastic. They feel quite different for sure esp cz sp-01/ shadow being on the heavy end (one of the heaviest 9mm around)
 
My first 9mm was a PPQ M2. Loved it. Will own one again I'm sure. Whatever you do try holding one in a store and make sure it feels right and you can manipulate all the controls comfortably. I own a great 1911 that sadly I don't shoot enough because I have short fingers.
 
Try as many pistols as you can. If you belong to a club, you can politely ask members to try their pistol. Just buy the ammo. Few points to consider: Grip, sight picture, overall weight and recoil. You might also consider parts availability, warranty in case a repair is needed and accessories if you will venture into IPSC/IDPA or action shooting. My personal choice, CZ SP01 Shadow. Do not go impulse buying because of the review. Your opinion differs from mine. Good luck in your quest and Safe Shooting.
 
I have a glock 34 with a .22 conversion kit (to save on ammo for practice). Lots of glocks out there, parts are no problem, shoots well, proven for law enforcement.
 
As someone else said try it before you buy one. I shot a Walther at the range I belong to . a P 99 or something of that nature. I hated it . you can never go wrong with a CZ 85 or SP 01. they just shoot so nice and the grip is as near perfect as you can get. or a Glock 17 or Glock 35.
 
All depends on what you want to do with it….

For purely stationary off the bench shooting for ooo's and aaah's "look how tight my groups are" get the best fitting and prettiest HG you can afford. Once you decide if you want a striker fired vs hammer (I believe you need at least one of each) you'll need to decide between a poly vs steel frame.

For "rough" holster work/run and gunning my G17 has proven to be very practical and accurate. Light, no external safeties to mess with, dependable, easy to maintain, lots of mags and accessories(not that any are necessary). Sure, it may not have the best trigger and many complain about the ergos but I've found it matters less when your hearts pumping and you're on the move. Key words here are Practice and Training.

For oooo's and aaah's my choice of HG is a Revolver….everytime. Good luck in your quest OP.
 
Most underrated company: CZ.

Dollars to doughnuts, picking up a CZ75 may be your best bet for a steel frame, and if going polymer, I'd grab a P09. So many great features on both. Ergos, controls, quality.

And this isn't just a matter of price. That's just the bonus.
 
Cz all the way.....don't get me wrong...I love them all...get the Cz, you're going to go there anyway....yes you are......
 
My first 9mm was a Nornico 1911 NP29... Yea yea I know most people don't like them.
But for the $400.00 I spent on it I could not have asked for a better gun. I have shot about 5K of rounds through it (all sorts of different ammo) and have not had one problem with it.
It gets cleaned every 2nd time out. Yes I put a couple of after market pieces into it but not much. Trigger, spring guide and some TLC.
I like it and it shoots for me. On the other hand my buddy bought one the same time as I did and has had nothing but problems with his. So who knows...
