I'm wondering about feeding a 375 Ruger in a savage 116 338WM FCSS DM action. Will it need gun smithing to feed properly? Do I just order a prefit Mcgowen barrel, action wrench, head space gauges, and find out? I'll do some calling around to see if I can find a gunsmith who has done this conversion and can shed some light on this.

You have the action. Get a 375 Ruger cartridge and try to see if it will load into the magazine and if it will start to feed out... off hand I don't see why it would work.

Good point. Think it wouldn't? Or would? I'll give it try before ordering a prefit. Camp work will put a couple week delay in the process. I won't get hands on before I leave for work.

I am sure it would require magazine alterations for the fatter Ruger cartridge.

Update: 375 Ruger feeds alright, but mag doesn't have enough room to hold and feed 3 rnds while being inserted on a closed bolt. My requirements have been short barrel (20" or so) and detachable mag. If I give up on the DM, the Howa Hogue can be had (on their website anyway) in 375 Ruger with 20" barrel. The 338WM NIB unfired will probably be worth close to the Howa price. I'll hear back from Prophet River before deciding.
