Hey guys,
So far, I've been using the 168 gr Berger VLD Hunting for my 300 WSM for hunting moose; accurate at about 3/4-1 MOA and 3150 FPS. I heard a few times that a 150 gr in the 300 WSM really "shines". I was wondering what are your thoughts on the 150 gr Nosler Accubond and the 155 Berger VLD hunting? I want to drives these bullets in the 3400+ FPS using the Superformance. My mag allows about 3.050 COAL so I can bring this Berger close to the rifling as with the 168.

Cheers, Fred.

Well Fred, if I was you I would use the Accubond. If you are shooting your moose at relatively close range you won't need all that velocity.

Actually, the WSM is my long range rifle and want to use it eventually for deer hunting at over 500+ for a real challenge. I tried shooting at 700 meters this winter and although wind can be a real challenge, the drop at extended range gets exponential and a faster bullet will help if the distance estimation is not perfect. I ordered the 150 accubond and the 155 VLD last night so I'll test both.

Before you get too excited see if you get both the speed and accuracy with the 150 Superformance load. I too thought the 3400 fps load was alluring, but found accuracy to be non existent. I could also only use the starting loads before pressures got red lined. Didn't really matter though, since it shot so bad it wasn't worth Chronographing. come to think of it, I can't say I've ever had any luck with Superformance, except a bit with the 30-06. That wasn't any faster than H4350 though.
