Is anybody familiar with a site called Steve's Reloading Data Pages?
There is a chart to select from and many calibers and loads offered.
There are loads on there that I can find no where else.
Here is an example...8mm mauser , 170 grn bullet with IMR-4198 From 23.0 grains to 27.5 grains.
anybody tried this load? I'd definitely start at the bottom and work up . But I'd like to try this load.
Anybody have any experience with this load?

That's the thing . From what I see, it doesn't mention if this is for cast , or jacketed bullets , so I would think it's meant for jacketed.
 
The site is one mans attempt to round up as many electronic manuals as possible to help his fellow shooters out, the versions are not always the latest but it's a great resource for those who have purchased items and are looking for manufacturing information and loading content.
 
it is a fantastic site as a shooting resource. For loading data I like to cross ref stuff(if possible). Although there are variations, usually they all tolerate/indicate a safe place to start.
I looked at th'page, and comparing with other data (hodgdons page) cross ref with a powder n' bullet combo available to both. BLC-2 (alphabetical 1st match) with hrdy 170 RN on hodgdons, and 170 gr on Steve's...they max near the same, but start wildly different...h335 is very close in range from start load to max. Kinda supports a jacketed bullet's use.

Nothing to cross ref in that powder I can find, but there are other resources too.
 
The last time I visited that site - a couple of years ago - all my anti-virus programs lit up. I have had no desire to go back there ever.
 
I haven't been on that sight in quite a while but have it tagged, its a good source to compare with against other manuals.

One of my older manuals, Speer Volume 9 from 1974, does show IMR 4198 REDUCED VELOCITY loads for 170 gr .323 bullets in the 8X57 Mauser with a start of 23.0 gr and a max. of 27.0 gr. As you have indicated start low for sure and work up. Burn rates on the IMR 4198 have most likely changed a bit since this data was developed 40 plus years ago.
I can't comment on the site as I am not familiar with it.
 
Passed away last spring if I am not mistaken... Nice to see most of his site is still online. He was a member here for quite a while..until banned if I recall.
 
So this load is for 170 grain jacketed bullets . I found another load using IMR 4198 also , with a lighter powder charge for the cast bullets. Thanks all
