What have you done to your AR15 today?

Funny you should ask. Had a brand new DD mk18 come in the mail today!! Dressed it up a bit. Still gotta swap out the flash hider for a brake. I have a brand new vg6 gamma I might try on it.

Love my Daniel Defense's. It's gonna go nicely with its brother. :)

^^ Nice! Congrats on the MK18!

So I ordered a Wheeler AR15 Receiver Lapping tool from Amazon. Got it the other day so I gave it a go.

On my Rainier upper receiver, there was noticeable uneveness/square:

Originally the barrel did look a little offset before I used the tool but I thought that it was the handguard (bought used) that was warped. It looks more evenly centered now after lapping it.

My DD upper receiver was pretty much square. I didn't do the other uppers.

We'll see if it makes a difference in accuracy.

Well...not exactly today, but recently I stripped my new DPMS BCG to clean and lube it, and then couldn't get the stupid firing pin retaining cotter pin back . As nearly as I can tell, it takes a 5/64 cotter pin to fit exactly...and those don't appear to be available anywhere at Rona or Home Depot. YESTERDAY I got a proper pin [not a cotter pin] at the big gun show...

And it's perfect. Gonna order a couple more.

TODAY: I picked up some Magpul XT Rail Panels to put on my DA556. Man, those suckers don't go on easily.

That's pretty cool. Can't say I've ever seen those before.

Installed the Diemaco C8FTHB carbine triad on my C8A3, KAC M4 RIS on my MK18 and M16A1 sling on my clones.

Great score at the Calgary Gun Show. I won't miss next year!!

Still missing the one unicorn I went there for. A Diemaco DIS.

Barrel wear, a good zero and solid come ups.
It was yesterday afternoon but I (along with a handful of other AR users) used mine to shoot a few practice matches at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500yds in Nanaimo.

I was told that this is the original part design by Armalite. The cotter pin came along when somebody [government procurer probably] realized that cotter pins cost a nickle while the machined pin probably cost a dollar [IDK...a dime...a dollar..whatever]. I suppose if you're buying 10,000 of them at once the saving is significant, but if you have to replace the cotter pin every time you strip the bolt for cleaning...well... [The gunsmith at my club told me he's always out of the cotter pins because guys lose them or can't replace them and raid his stock]. I don't mind paying a few bucks more for a part I might never have to replace.
