Csa, vz difference?

I only own one red rifle, a standard Russian sks, so forgive my ignorance here. I've been following various threads about red rifle mods and the various 'ak pattern' rifles that are either available now or on the way soon. My question is a basic one and has likely been answered before. What's the difference between the VZ 858 and CSA model(s)? Is one made to a higher standard? Is a VZ/CZ the same as a VZ? Is it just a matter of availability?

CSA make a semi auto only variant of the model 58 known as the VZ 58. The VZ is an abbreviation of VZOR which means model .

Get a second hand CZ 858, it's a much better rifle than the CSA effort.
 
Same gun design. One commercial with 5 year warranty(CSA), The other Surplus with 1 year from some sellers (CZ). I doubt any really gains in quality but some CZ are selling for 800$ on EE and that's a huge discount compared to a new CSA VZ at 1300+ tax.

Im sure are you noticed during research both have their own issues so just flip a coin and by the cheaper one like I did.
 
Yep. Both have their issues but the issues of the CZ 858 is easily fixable at home and welding the bolt is not required. However, when the CSA is running right, its an awesome gun. Off the bat it won't feel as good as the CZ 858 but once its broken in it will feel as smooth. Nice thing is you got 5 years of warranty. Either one is probably the best non-restricted rifle on our market. I've owned two 858's and one CSA.
 
I own a CSA VZ 58. I also own replacement parts for every major component for this rifle suplied by CZ, issued as surplus. They fit my CSA therefore they are the same rifle just like a Colt 1911 is the same as a Smith & Wesson 1911. There is no difference other than cosmetic between the CSA rifle and the CZ rifle.
 
Another with one of each... I was sceptical about the Csa initially after all the negative reviews, but i am very pleased with both. Csa is every bit as good I find.
The problems that existed for the most part with Csa I believe is the ones that were in .556/.223.

I have 2 VZ.58 rifles in Black and Tan. They were designed to shoot 7.62x39 ammo not 5.56/.223. Both of mine run without issue and are easy to maintain and customize with many options from after market suppliers. The bulk of the issues are related to the 5.56 chambered model. If you want to shoot 5.56 reliably, get a Tavor or....
 
My 5.56CSA has been excellent, gobbles the ammo and spits out the brass! :). Thought about selling it many times, but love shooting but far too much right now to part ways with it!

Same boat. Want to get another Semi auto platform to replace it but letting the VZ58 go is hard! Especially now that if you want one new they will set you back close to 1500$.....Yikes..... Tho's were bennelli MR1 prices when I started out.

I keep telling my self i will sell my VZ until I take it out for a day then I just cant do it. Sometimes I think ill die with that gun in my safe.

I hear ya CBP! I have the lowrise csa mount with a SPARC on mine, but contemplating trying out the new Magwedge rail and putting something with a little more magnification and trying to stretch it out a bit. More for the fun of it. Right now tryin to hold of on pullin the trigger on an 858 from Wolverine :). Will have to see if I'm successful!
 
Hey quick question for all the CSA owners of the VZ58, always wanted to ask, does your top hand guard have a slight wiggle/loose to it? Does not at all affect anything, just wondering, thanks
