Value of used VZ 58

Hi there, currently looking at a buddy's CZ 58 in 5.56/.223. He says he picked it up last year, and has probably put 600-1000 rounds through it. But I'm not sure how accurate this is, could be substantially more. He Uses corrosive surplus ammo. Gun has the regular forend but new muzzle break, sling, and adjustable stock. Comes with two 10-rd AR mags and one 5/30 CSA. He's offered it to me for $800.

Is this a good deal? How do I make sure it's not a lemon? What should I look for when inspecting it?

Wow, this one is all over the place. CZ makes the 858, CSA makes the VZ 58. There isn't a lot of corrosive 5.56 ammo floating around, so that sounds a bit odd. Has it been fitted with the AR mag adapter too? (I ask because AR pistol mags won't help much without the adapter).

Perhaps try it out for a mag to see if it fits you? It's worth what you, or someone else, would pay for it -- assuming he would accept the offer.
 
If you have your PAL, ask him to borrow it for an evening so you can watch a YouTube vid while you strip it down. These things are generally tough as nails and I haven't heard too many instances of issues with them. I haven't heard of corrosive .223, but you'll want to lock the bolt back and shine a flashlight down the chamber/barrel to look for discolouration, pitting, rust or excessive wear just in case.

For 800 beans it's a great deal, especially if it's non-restricted. If it's restricted, you could probs my find one in the $600-700 range if you wait it out and watch the EE.
 
Sorry - I meant CSA VZ 58, non-restricted sporter. It has the AR mag adaptor. I plan to strip it down with him today. Thanks for the info. I feel alot more comfortable knowing the surplus ammo used likely wasn't corrosive! Probably gonna squeeze the trigger on this one.

Run it hard... the CSA had some issues with the .223 caliber and those 10rd adapter kits were also hit or miss. If it functions perfectly, then you deal. If it doesn't, hand it back to him.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a VZ58 rifle unless it was 7.62x39.

I'd say for a perfect functioning rifle, about $700-750 would be a good price... but make sure you want it first.
 
I would agree the 800 is fair. The 223 is NOT corrosive, and if it functions good you should buy it. The adapter is worth about $100 and then you have to buy a couple mags, and the rifle itself I purchased a twin to it for 899 plus taxes in 2014. That would put the value of the parts, and rifle at 1150'ish so not a bad deal really. I wouldn't let mine go for $800 but that's cause its too damn expensive to replace it at today prices, which are much higher now!

It might be due to my location, but I haven't seen a new CSA VZ58 getting sold for a Gnote in a while. Most I've seen now are $1,300-$1,400 from site sponsors. Used on the EE they range from $800-$1,200 or so from what I've seen.

Really... guess I haven't looked in a while. Guess $800 is a pretty good deal then. I remember not long ago SFRC had the regular for $1000 and the chrome lined for $1100. Guess those days are gone.

I remember Wolverine blowing out shorty .223 VZ58's for $399 AS IS with no returns, as they had issues... anyone remember that one? The earlier 223's were terrible.

Yup. Bought my CSA Vz58 in 7.62x39 a year ago for a hair over a grand. Was in my LGS yesterday and they were selling the fixed-stock model for $1395. They are nice guns but those prices are getting up there.

It's the dollar that's hitting us bad right now, and it's just going to keep getting worse, not better. 3 years ago, CSA VZ's were 1000, 858's were 699, and VZ 58's were 800. Now, CSA's are 1400, 858's are 1000, and, well I haven't seen any VZ 58's in quite a while...
 
I paid about $980 for my x39 Vz.58 in October 2014. Had I known they were going to jump in value by 40% I'd have bought two...

At any rate, 1K rounds is a rifle that's just been broken in. With the accessories and extra magazines $800 isn't a horrible price -- though I personally wouldn't buy a 5.56 Vz...
