What is the fastest air pistol in Canada?

I want to buy an air pistol, and want a really fast one. I have my RPAL, so, is there a pellet or B.B. handgun out there that is faster than 4-500 f/s??
If less than 500 f/s is the limit, what are the best IN YOUR OPINION. Revolver or semi is no worry. I like all handguns. I would rather it take 12gram cylinders, but would not rule out some kind of air chamber or pneumatic pump. As long as it doesn't look like a 2 slice toaster in my hand..........

If yourlooking for power, the crossman 2240 in .22cal is around 460fps and takes 12 gram co2, cost is around 80$ and if you used alloy pellets it would be "faster". this would probly give the most foot pounds of energy for the cost. There is also a lot of aftermarket parts to customize this model and you could very easily get that up to the max leagal limit of 500fps.
 
I'll keep that thought on the backburner, but want to know what is the FASTEST handgun airgun out there. I know lots of rifles that can do 1200+ f/s but what is the max for a pistol??
 
Most pistol velocities are limited by their barrel lengths for Co2 and by the piston size for springers. There really arent a lot of pistols out there that will go over 500 maybe 600 max in .177 even check in the states. It is there size that keeps them slow. Mind you there are a few PCP pistols out there that go pretty quick as well browning made a spring pistol that is supposed to go 800 but its quite long and im not so sure they sell it anymore. For the pistols that go over 500 they arent very popular up here so would think one hard to find. I suppose you could register a a 2240 over 500 fps but why would you want to? Look around at D&L, PyramidAir, Specialty shooting sports, fox sporting goods and you will see that its just not me saying this but in general pistols really dont reach the limit you want. Myself I own an HW45 which does 450 in .22 caliber which is powerful enough for me. Its even good enough to small pests within 25 yrds.

Cool, thanks for the info. I surely will be buying one that can go anywhere legally, but was mainly curious as to the upper limit of velocity for a pistol. They have always facsinated me for many reasons. I have used different airguns since I was 7 and that was 36 years ago. Still have my first pellet gun too. My daughter took possession of it and promptly destroyed her first pepsi can at 15 meters. I never owned an air pistol, always rifles, as I had many misgivings about durability in the ones I saw years ago. Doesn't look like that is too much of a problem these days. The winters are so long here that I need something to do in my shed during the winter that doesn't involve dis-assembling and re-assembling guns out of boredom.
 
Crosman 2240 with a RVA to push it to just under 495. I know you can push a 1377 to over 700. I seen it down in the states.

Over 500 FPS you need to register it as a restricted firearm, Being that there barely any FRT for air pistols you need to send it in for a new FRT because one will need to be made. Than range only applies.

I just recently asked on a airgun forum and well didnt go well.

I got a 2240 that I converted to 177 using a 1377 barrel and bolt, I changed the spring and it went over 500 FPS. I had to fool around with transfer ports and factory springs to get it under 500.
 
Creating a 'restricted' air pistol would open a whole new can of worms...

You would have to abide by all the restricted firearm rules and regulations
- Safe storage and transport rules
- Could only be used on approved range
- Could only be sold to someone with a restricted license, once the transfer had been approved by the RCMP
- Failure to comply with the rules, would get you a criminal record

Not to say that once a FRT had been issued for a air-pistol, it would be simple enough for a politician (or someone at the RCMP who doesn't like air pistol) to have other air pistol reclassified as a 'variant'...

Manufacturers could easily have PCP air pistol go over the 495 fps (or whatever it is) 'legal' limit... It's just a matter of adjusting the transfer port and hammer spring tension... but most won't go there, because of the can of worms it would open

There fun to tinker with as you can replace nearly everything with aftermarket parts, have long said that out of the box accuracy is good but can be improved. Typically the first series of upgrades are trigger job (look on YouTube), steel breech and a flat top piston (to decrease pumping).

I had one. I since converting it to C02. The newer pump handle is a upgrade from the hand pincher. If you have a chrony a 35$ mod you can adjust the tension on the hammer spring giving you more or less tension. You can push it right to the 499 Limit.

Tones of parts from steel breaches ( with built in 11mm rail ), Barrels length, stocks, internals parts.

Its true. Flat top piston Ive seen in Canada for 15$ and that guy if you pay shipping will modify your stock valve.

Trigger job is as simple as compressing the stock spring. I just went with a lighter spring.
 
For shooting in your shed you won't really need the fastest.

Webley Alecto's are pretty fast, with longer barrels even faster. Big gun though. Pump so you can select the power and 3 pumps is max.
The HW 45 is a classic and you can buy barrels in .177 but that might put you over the limit.
BSA Scorpion is another fast classic, big break barrel no longer produced.
BSA 240 Magnum, fast and compact springer but feels weird in the hand, difficult to find.

HW 40 is not fast but it's a nice sized and styled pneumatic with a good trigger and perfect for plinking and target shooting in a shed or basement.
Crosman pump as suggested above is probably the best inexpensive option and you can fine tune the power based on the number of pumps. Pumping 10 times gets old fast though.....

Any air pistol that exceeds the maximum of 500 fps becomes classified as a "firearm" and a restricted one to boot, since it's a handgun. Retailers in Canada don't bother selling any models that have a MV greater than 500 fps as the market for restricted air pistols in Canada is very small. There are air pistols available that will shoot very close to 500 fps, even with .22 or .25 caliber pellets. These air pistols are PCP air pistols, which need to be filled with high pressure air. A special pump or a scuba or scba tank is needed to fill these guns.
 
Beeman P17 is the best bang for the buck. Around $60 and it shoots just about as good as the HW40 it's a copy of. The only difference between the two in my opinion is the HW40 has a slightly better trigger, but not a huge difference. I think they shoot around 400-425fps are accurate as heck. I went to my first and only Pistol Field target math with one and tied for 3rd place, I was competing with guys shooting guns that were worth 10 times this one. I ended up losing in a shootout, got 4th place.
 
I don't think a springer pistol over 500fps in. 22 would be much fun...controlling it would make accuracy questionable in a airgun that is already challenging...since it would have to be registered etc as a restricted firearm...I can see no advantage over a .22LR handgun.
 
I want to mod a M&P 40 BB pistol magasine co2 cylinder .right now i get 300 fps thats slow all help welcome
 
If you can get 400-500fps out of a pistol and hit a golf ball at 50 ft it will take care of any headshot grouse . I just got my custom 2240 back yesterday and have yet to chrony or sight it in.For accuracy the Crosman MK1 /.22 is hard to beat.Just had one of those rebuilt and valve /ports polished also unfired .I had a .22 BSA Scorpion and it had the worst ergonomics of any pistol.parts are pretty much non -existant even in the UK...........Harold
 
I had a Webley, should not have sold it. Join an airgun group/website. Can get some great deals/info there as well.
