HK Wins the US Army CSASS Competition - RUMOR HAS IT

Interesting, I won't think the HK will be the lightest and most accurate, but it is probably the most average amongst many. Like a "B" for everything.

This made me sad I wish KAC would have won the new E2 SR25s are pretty amazing and every 417/MR762 I've held has felt like a boat anchor compared to other AR pattern 308s. I just hope to god the scope has a decent reticle like a Horus and not some plain Mildot holding in empty space for wind or leading a mover is quite crappy.
 
Heckler & Koch Defense Inc., Ashburn, Virginia, was awarded a $44,500,000 firm-fixed-price contract with options for Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System spare parts, training, and government purpose rights. Bids were solicited via the Internet with eight received with an estimated completion date of March 30, 2022. Funding and work location will be determined with each order. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-16-D-0051).

If you are being issued the stuff I can understand your position but if you are wanting to buy KAC with your own money than this is good news as it will shorten the waiting list.
 
HK 417 is in use with many NATO partners and has a reputation for extreme reliability. Also gas volumes with DI 7.62 mm is much more than 5.56 mm, which results in a very dirty DI gun. 417 solves that.

I agree. Its impossible to be new, cutting edge, innovative, and not experience teething problems that will kill you in a big government evaluation. The only way to win is to be a strong, reliable 80% solution.

The lower is worth nothing - those KAC 2-stage triggers are probably the first that need to be replaced from wear and tear. The magazines are worn out and the suppressor are probably done...buying uppers, new suppressors and refurbing the lower probably cost more money than soliciting a new package with new features they want.

The M110 is not the M4 or M16A4 with more than a million and a half in circulation. For that 4000 to 6000 ish weapons, buying new is not a big deal. Peanut in the us army budget.

Regardless of what people feel, the 417 is a proven system, basically every military uses HK417 somewhere, other than the US and the UK. American likes to hate HK, because they are not home grown.

Like it or now, HK basically got all the crown jewels and most prestigious of all the US small arms, HK416 ( and MP7) with the USMC and the tier 1 spec ops, and now the CSASS. HK does make solid weapons.
