Hi there just getting into longer range shooting and thanks to all of you on this board I grabbed a t3 varmint hb in 223. That's my start. I have to go work another shift and then I'll have the money for the glass lol

Question... Anywhere in Alberta I can go for a weekend or a day or evenings and actually get some lessons, pointers, tips from someone who can lead me through the basics and into some longer range? My range max is 200 and I usually shoot alone since I just moved to Alberta last year.

I see course south of Okotoks near chain Lake. Practical marksmanship? I have no issue paying for a course just wondering where the best spot is

Burton Tactical offers private/pairs/group training. Based out of Edmonton. They have a website & Facebook page. I recently did my PAL & RPAL through them. As I'm still waiting on my license I haven't done any private training, but will be in the future. If the drive isn't an issue for you, I think the one-on-one training would be great. I believe each session is a 7hr day, sign up for as much or as little as you'd like.

Yeah I'll send an email to furlong and get some pricing. Only price I can find is 850 and that's the rifle I believe maybe course as well. I don't know if this is the best route with my little tikka. Pretty heavy emphasis on pgw and cadex and everyone tact'ed out like mad but he does offer civilian. Not much info on Burton but I'll contact there as well

Tony (Burton) is a super good guy, I've been emailing back and for with him about my intro to LR shooting. He's steered me towards a .223 as well. His training programs seem pretty flexible. He offers pistol, carbine, and precision. Depending on weapon platform dictates which range you'd be at. CHAS offers up to 300m I believe, anything longer would be at the Edson 1 mile. He would have all the info, I'm just an ill-informed middle man. I've only met him twice, but he's got a good reputation here in Edmonton, and with some shooting buddies of mine on Vancouver Island.

Don't worry about your " little Tikka "! He uses those Cadex rifles for class guns if people want to use them. It's better to train on your own platform, and master it, not a rental that costs more and you have to shoot his supplied Hornady ammo.

Good-Better-Best

Howdy!

I would be more than happy to travel to put on a class in central / south Alberta!

Nothing better than watching a shooter's face the first time they nail a distant gong!

Hit me with some locations, preferably longer ranges, but foundational training takes place 100-300 meters or so.

I would keep class size to a maximum of 6 people ( 3 shooting pairs ) to ensure you get my full attention.

Private one-on-one instruction is also available.

I have a pretty full season already, but we'll make it work.

Tony Burton at Burton Tactical is also an excellent choice.

Rob Furlong runs larger group courses, and he and his instructors are top-notch.

Where you choose to train is less important to me than that you do train!

If I can help you on your way as a Thinking Rifleman, please email me at sierra64riflecraft@gmail.com

Cheers,

Ben

Are you a member of CDTSA?

If so, let me know. Could head out to Milo and show you more than a few things that would be free.

I have no credentials other than what I've learnt from my experiences and 1000's of rounds a year at ranges of 500-1100y. Free is free though. I've also had help a long the way so time to pay it forward again. I've already brought a buddy up to speed and now he threatens to outshoot me...

That's worth doing!
