I have a sps here in 204. Great little gopher/yote rifle, but the looks kill me. How durable is cerakote? Can a fella get it done over the sps finish? I was thinking of a silver barrel with the blue/black action and swap the stock for a piece of walnut. Which brings another question up. Will a heavy barrel SA varmint stock work,or is the sps a slightly altered 700 action? It wont get a lot of hard use so to speak, but still has to be able to handle normal handling with the barrel coating.I guess I am looking for another project! Oh and who does cerakote? Or is there another finish that is more durable?

I don't have experience with cerakote, but i did have my rifle KG Guncoat by Casey at Tactical Ordinance in ontario, great job, going on two years now with no signs of wear. The rifle has been used quite a bit and hunted with. I do believe cerakote is supposed to be more durable though. The action is all the same, as long as you get a stock intended for a Rem 700 short action you will be good to go. Some very slight modifications may be needed if you have an aftermarket trigger installed.

Can you remember cost? I am looking for a fairly bright silver color..or at least that the way my brain is picturing it!!

the sps seems to look much smoother after grit blasting and coating. my sps tactical liked to rust in the safe. the only rifle that did. I coated it in graphite black and love the durability. it will look way better than the factory finish.

Cerakote is the very best finish available it will work great on your barreled action and synthetic stock.

If you have the side rubber panels on the stock and grip area I recommend you do not put it on those areas though.

I use Frank @ Cerakote BC he is located in Hope BC.

All I am thinking of getting done is just the barrel. Action stays original, stock sold off, nice chunk of walnut replaces it.

I went OD green on my McMillan stock and satin black on my barreled action.

I'm going to send 2 more rifles in the first chance I get first is a Rem 700 LTR 22" factory tapered fluted matte blue finish in 6.8SPC second is my old blued Ruger M77 tang safety in 22-250 I will be getting both of the barreled actions done in satin black.

I have titanium cerakote in stock. And photos are available of it on my facebook and instagram (soon to be up on my website too). Just did up an sks in it :)

There's a company in Calgary that does Cerakote. Google "Black Box Customs", their gallery is mostly pistols but they do rifles and shotguns too.
