Headed out to my friend's place this afternoon to sight in a couple of gopher defense artillery pieces.

I bought an el cheapo Tasco red dot on sale for $44.95. I have never owned one of any kind, so I figured I can't go too far wrong to try this one.

I mounted it on my 10/22 TD and got it sighted in with no trouble. It took maybe 15 rounds or so. Great deal for my fuzzy old eyes! Just have to remember to shut it off. :) I didn't keep a target, but I was shooting at about 30 of my paces which would be around 90 ft. (Yes! FEET!)

Next up was my little Chiappa M1-22. Sights are pretty cheesy, but easy to adjust. I fired about 40 rounds to break it in, using both magazines that came with it. The little thing never caused one bit of trouble, even though it is a cheaply built rifle.

The target shown was the last 10 rounds, and the flyer off to the bottom right was the first shot. Don't ask me why it landed over there.

All the other 9 were close to the center, and given my fuzzy eyes and the peep sight, I was tickled pink with the way it shot. I used 555 Winchester.

Looks like a nice day at the range kjohn!
The two I owned were very reliable shooting bulk ammo with accuracy similar to yours. The wood on these rifles is just beautiful, and they really handle nicely.
Always had to remember to wear my shooting glasses as this one will spit hot powder residue back at your face.
My only real complaint about them is the 9lb gritty triggers and the lack of a recoil buffer system. The portion of the cast aluminum op-rod/charge handle that sits in the bolt is pretty tiny and takes a repeated pounding...it will eventually fail. It's a serious design flaw and before I got out of the M1-22's I seriously thought about paying a machine shop to make me one out of billet, but I have a feeling the cost would have been almost as much as a new complete rifle.

Yep. Terrible trigger, but I am not going to fiddle with it. I was impressed with the way it shot. They are definitely not a heavy duty gopher gun!

I have the 9mm version. Did a trigger job on it last summer. Now its light and crisp with a clean break. Only took a stone and a slightly lighter spring. Wonder if the 22 m1 is the same?
