I wanted to do something with the existing stock on this mod. As usual, I cut the barrel to 19" and removed all excess bayonet and accessories. I also cut the magazine flush to give a more streamline shape. Made fiber optic sights front and back. Added a 1 inch butt pad and a metal handguard. The paint job came out not too bad. I used cedar leaves as a pattern. Had a spare sling strap from another stock so I added it to the forearm.

Destroying a collector item, oh my GOD, you will go to hell!!!

Oh yea they made millions on them, do what ever you want, looks cool nice job.

Let the haters hate

That is Nicely done , what recoil pad is that and how much does it add to the LOP of the stock , I find the stock SKS stock to be to short myself .

Got it at That Hunting Store in Richmond for about 17 bucks and it added 1 inch to the LOP, it's both a slip on and screwed as well so it covers the end very well. They are made by Leapers UTG.

Nice job... I cut the bayonet and lug off one of my Russian refurbs, and it looks and handles a lot better.

Does your mag modification still allow it to hold 5 rounds and feed with stripper clips? With all the tacticool junk available for the SKS, it surprises me that a 5-round mag that sits flush and works exactly like the 10-rounder hasn't been made.

No, the mag cut flush still holds 6 so you have to leave about a 1/4" of that leg they add to limit to 5. Yes I cut my stripper clips to hold 5 anyways. there is some that make the 5 shot flush mags but they are too expensive when you can easily cut your own.

You're, they made millions of them, point is invalid. Point being, There is approximately 2 million more Lee Enfields made than SKS made yet the price of an all original Lee Enfield is 2 - 3 times that of one that is sporterized. Second point, its not the total number of them made that maters. Its the total number that is here in Canada and the demand people have for them. Not trying to say its wrong to have fun with your SKS. I for one promote it. Besides its the only way gun businesses make money off the SKS. People are under this conception they make a killing of the SKS but it someone just buys an SKS and intends to do nothing to it, the store made $10 of that gun. If they buy the gun, an aftermarket stock, magazines, ammunition, scope mount, scope, bipod, yea... the store is making money now and that's what makes it worth it to even bother to keep the rifle in stock. This is also why stores charge a preimum for "Select Grade" Its for the @#$%er's who want to waist the stores time for a $10 profit rifle to look at everything they have in inventory. Just buy it, shoot it, and enjoy it. Then 30 years later when it starts to hit collectors value, people can start worrying about preserving and restoring them.

Well....that does make some sense, but we like to have huge bananas hanging off our guns cuz its cool and stuff.

I'm not against your point but I call major BS on more LE made than SKSs... Russia and China for sure produced much much more of those guns than UK and Canada may have.

Numbers I found states 17 millions LE and around 15 millions RUSSIAN sks... Count all the others country that pruduced them or just think of Yugo and China...

Btw, I think the paint job looks cool and different. Not a fan of the flush mag tho but to each their own.

I'm normally a purist. I frown on altering a production gun. That being said, I have to say I like it. You did a nice job, and I like the contrast of the metal top handguard and the rubber butt pad.

Cool rifle.
