Should I get rid of my 1911 22 ?

Read that yesterday about cleaning the paint off. Ill do that but man the pull is probably not going to lose a pound will it?

I have not done any trigger work on mine yet, but if you google it, there are many references that explain what can be done to them.

I have it up for sale as well as trade just to see what kind of offers I can get. I really appreciate all the great advice. The fact is I have a Remington 870 that my wedding party got me laser etched for my wedding and that is the firearm in my safe that I will never get rid of and have the most attachement to. The gsg has been a great pistol but I don't think it's the one I'll be regretting getting rid of. I think it's just time for something a bit bigger and just time for a change as well. As one of the posters said its almost an addiction once you get the firearms itch. Hopefully I can find someone who is either looking for a .22 or someone with at wants a trade down.

Thanks so much guys. The responses have been great. What an awesome community.

Fully understand building a nicer suite of better quality firearms is natural and the plain Janes will not often be missed

Thing is, if you cannot afford to buy a 9mm pistol without selling a GSG 1911 in 22LR, how in the hell are you going to afford 9mm to feed the new acquisition? Centrefire pistol ammo isn't cheap these days.

If you like your GST then I say keep the GSG. Swapping it out for another 22 is just going to cost you money and lead to regrets if you love the GSG. You wouldn't get what you think you need for it anyway. The EE is a great place to lurk and snap up great 9mm deals. The Norc 226 copy is a decent pistol. Lots of folks have good experiences with it. I've shot it and don't see anything wrong with it. You can get decent used 9mm for under $400 bucks if you wait - these include SR9s and other similar pistols if the Norc scares you. The other option is save up until you can get the pistol you want. Depending on how much you plan to shoot, the cost of ammo will outweigh the purchase price of the pistol. It should not be ignored. Reloading will save money but only after you invest in the equipment which might not be possible right now for you.

This is a very valid question.

If you are scraping to find bucks for a 9mm consider some of the lower cost options other than Norc. I've seen some fine Norcs and I've seen some that came supplied with lots of little issues. The QC on them is just so spotty that it's sort of like buying a Lotto Ticket.

If you've shot a CZ and like the fit and feel then consider the lower cost 75B. Or perhaps go for a Jericho. A CZ clone which has the same grip and trigger feel as the 75.

I've got both a Shadow and an older 75. Of the two I actually prefer the balance in the hand of the lighter dust cover option on the 75. So if you have to watch your coins and end up buying a basic regular 75 don't feel like you're buying junk. It's a darn fine piece!

Or a used 85 Combat - adjustable sight and no firing pin block.

Our club president had one last fall for $600. I was shocked that it got through 2 gun shows before it found a home. I'd have bought it myself but just a few months prior one of the sponsors here had blown them out for 600 and change and I could not resist. Things are close to a grand new now :(
