Turn your AR15 into a 50 BMG

I find it laughable when people say this. If you can't afford a proper .50 bmg, how are you going to be able to afford to feed it? It won't take long for the cost of ammo to eclipse the cost of the rifle.

As much as I'd love a mag fed 50 BMG, I think I'll be safer and have more control on ammo spending with a single shot rifle as I tend to overdue it at times!
If I can get 50 BMG fun for 4K cheaper, I don't see what's laughable about that. What makes you say this is not a proper .50 BMG?
And it isn't because I can't afford it either.
Seems to be quite popular actually.
It's a personal opinion.

I would think that would hammer the crap out of your lower attach pin holes, metal there isn't very thick and two small pins taking a hammer like that every shot???

Yeah/no?

ATRS makes their lower with that in mind from what I red. As for a normal AR lower I can"t say.

Here it is with an AR lower, this guy is funny:

The primary problem with a 50 BMG has never been the cost of the rifle. It is the cost of the ammo. At $10 a round, a single 5 shot group is $50. Just zero'ing the scope and working out your drops to any decent distance will empty your wallet before you've even had a chance to properly shoot the thing.

Then there is the problem of a range with enough distance to make the thing worthwhile. Ranges or private land like this aren't exactly easy to come by.

Seems that most 50BMG rifles are $6000 and over. I would say that is a problem in itself lol. And those bullets are like $5-7 each. Not for me unfortunaltey unless I win the 6/49

I belong to two clubs, and neither one is rated for .50BMG. I'd look at a setup like this for .338Lapua however.

Seems a lot of ranges out west are not rated for 50!
Many clubs here including the a few indoor ones allow 50. (Ontario, GTA)
Always had this notion that the big guns were out west :p

Even if a club is rated for 50 BMG, who wants to shoot it at 400 yds? The entire point of a 50 is long range and there are just not that many 1000 yd ranges around let alone ranges longer than that.

I'm reloading for the .50 BMG for around $3.25/round using 647 gr military surplus pulled bullets (pulled through a Lee 0.51 bullet sizing die to smooth the pull marks) - less than $2/projectile in quantity + $1 / round in H50BMG powder + $0.35 / round primer.

Even with 750gr AMAX projectiles ($3.20 each), you're still around $4.50/round. Not cheap but not $10 (unless you amortize the cost of the press - I bought the Ammomaster RCBS kit with dies before the Canadian dollar tanked, and it was reasonably priced in the US).

The ATRS lower requires modification of the 50bmg upper so it won't fit on an AR lower any longer. Atrs has their frt already. A Chinese model would result in a lab trip. And we know how that goes.

Well, kind of a bummer if ATRS stops making theirs and no one else steps up to the plate. Why is ATRS stopping production on the lowers anywa? Not selling well? Too much of a pain to make? Not enough profit margin?

What does a 50 BMG reloading kit and the special tools required cost? Around $1000 + or so? and it can only be used for this round. Which is gonna take a fair while to amortize over the amount of ammo the average guy is going to shoot through this kind of rifle.

My Lee classic cast 50BMG kit + lyman .50 case trimmer, was nowhere near 1k (admittedly it was several years ago I bought it so undoubtedly they are more expensive than they were). And the press can be used for any other caliber (has a removable threaded insert).

I'm more curious where to find .50BMG primers for $35/100 (are they dominion? Cuz CCIs are closer to $65/100)

With Canada Ammo planning to offer their own as they advertise, I just don't see any benefit to possibly getting caught with a bunch of lowers that may not sell.
If there is enough demand we would entertain making more. It seems that many are not happy with the price on a very small niche use part or preferring to have the upper stuck on a restricted lower, so then why should we bother?
