My first SKS purchase~walk me through it!

Nope. I've stripped a few SKS' of paint with Circa - right to the bare metal - and reblued successfully. Bbq paint isn't durable and scratches easily, which is why I got rid of it.

Clearly you haven't experienced stripping the harder coating some come with. I've seen three types - the shiny paint that lifts off in large peels with boiling water, the dull BBQ paint that most chem strippers will lift, and the tough as nails mystery coating that is an outright b***h to remove.

I'm also considering jumping on the sks bandwagon. I've seen some advertised as 'Silver Bolt' factory refurbished.
What do the mean by silver bolt? Better or worse than the alternative? (whatever that is).

A few SKS have had the bolt carrier given a "blacking" but most are left "in the white" The blacking was probably done to conceal blemishes. IMHO

SKS refurbs, now down to $149.99, not bad looking either, Molot parkerized, but in good shape and tight, going to pick up a 53 izzy now, there are a couple 54's too, so many SKS, so little money!

Just bought the 53 izzy, standard refurb tight gun though will take pics when i go back for one of the 54 izzys! The sale is on till they are all gone he said he had around 40 left!

The grand opening of our Bayers lake CTC will have 250 SKS and their sale price will be $169.99 but this other CTC is getting out of SKS I think, no other reason to sell them that cheap. I am going back tomorrow morning to get a couple more!

Nova Scotia is such a long ways away!:ang
Don't fret, SKS are about the only firearm, or for that matter anything that is cheaper than other places in Canada! I would collect some and send to you but the shipping plus our meager 15% sales tax would bring it up to SKS in your area! SVT in this area are $600 now! Plus our premiers retirement tax!
