Shooting the 375 ruger.

I was getting 2830 fps with my African and Varget with 260 grain ABs. Probably the max for Varget, but as CFBMI said it could be pushed further with RL powders. I bet you hit another accuracy node higher up.

I'm curious how guys are getting these velocities or higher in the 35 whelen? CFBMI I am guessing you are seating the bullets further out or something? Genuinely curious.

I don't own a chronograph but I shoot 71 grains of h4831 behind a 250 RN for a listed 2655 fps from my .338 wm. Any more powder and I would be into compressed loads if I seat the bullet to the cannelure.

Are my velocities higher thank I think? I thought the opposite was usually the case (24.5 inch barrel). Should I be using a faster burning powder? Buying a 340 wby :D?

Is there a reason the OP is restricting his shooting to 50 yards? There are lots of loads that will shoot tiny groups at 50 yards which will completely come apart at 100 or 200 yards.

There always seems to be different laws of physics when c-fbmi reloads! ;)

I guess there can be a lot of factors involved and combined when wringing the most out of the Whelen, or for that matter any cartridge.
My Whelen loads are slower than Dougs but not by very much.
I've loaded for my Whelen since a teenager and its on its second barrel due mainly to load work.
Mine has a 24" barrel and a generous throat which benefits velocity, so much that it made my 338s redundant.
I think the old Whelen suffers from being a highly underrated cartridge..

Just set up for 50 that day because we were in a gravel pit. Usually i set up at a hundred. I have had loads come apart after 50 but its usually due to improper bullet weight for barrel twist. I wasnt too worried about that this time.

X2 mine will chuck 250s at 2600 without any preasure signs. Is the load hot, sure but I find loading data under loaded due to the safety issues with lots of 35 whelen being pumps and semi autos. My winchester crf action is built to handle a higher psi. My brass has no stretch and no markings of preasure.

No bcs, the same laws of physics apply to me as everyone else........it's the lawyer written loading manuals that don't interest me, nor apply to me..........I have been reading pressure signs for more than 40 years and get several loads from most of my cases. This tells me that I am within the safe working limits of any given cartridge in my rifle.
My 700 Classic also has a long throat and I seat my 250 Parts out until they are just shy of the lands, this aids in case capacity and velocity.

DO NOT USE THIS DATA WITHOUT STARTING AT LEAST 10% LESS !!!!!!!!!

And this isn't even using W-W brass.........it's R-P, W-W is always good for another 50-100 fps...........;););););):eek::eek::eek::eek:

It's hard to find right now, but try to find some Ramshot Big Game powder. A max load provides incredible accuracy and 2700+ fps with 270 grain Barnes TSX.

want to hear where you can get some.

there is nothing wrong with the varget in the 375 ruger just needs a little more grains in ...

I'm currently loading for mine with Win 760(270gr TSX along with 300gr Partitions and 300gr DGX), haven't yet had a chance to shoot any of the loads to check accuracy or velocities but Quickload shows loads over 2700fps with the 270gr TSX up around the max listed loads in the 20" barrel, hoping I can achieve that along with good accuracy, I'll post results if I ever drag my lazy carcass out to the range to test these loads.
