Hi everyone. I have found a decent amount of Lino type set and was wondering what the current going price is ? This way I can barter, keep what I need and sell the rest at the same price . Got to keep everyone shooting, right !

Are you buying or selling? I got mine at scrap lead prices, but bought a tonne of lead at the time, then spent the next summer processing all the wheelweights and sorting through what I had.

I ended up with several different types of lead that I keep separate ( and labeled!!!)

I wouldn't melt it down into ingots, but leave it as is, so that you couldn't be accused of not selling what you say you have (like blended in a bunch of wheelweights to make the "good stuff" seem like it's more than actually there)

For me it'll end up as trading stock, but look at rotometals for a baseline as to what you might prices your stash at.

the thing is linotype is used to harden soft lead given it's high antimony content.
this is not an issue in the GVRD since Metalex (Richmond, BC) has antimonial lead for cheap.

Every time I have gone there, there is no guarantee of what blends they might have in stock and you have to buy a 60 # ingot at whatever price they are looking for and once they told me that if they had what I wanted and they only had a full pallet load they would not sell one or two ingots off of it. I fully know what Lino type is used for, been reloading and casting for a dam long time. Lino type in its raw form is not easy to find, and your purchase at $1.25 was a fantastic buy. Over the past two to three years I have seen supposed ingots of Lino type for up to $3.00 a #, again that's why I am asking for a current price. A lot of the scrap yards charge $1.00 to 1.50 for pure and I have never found raw Lino type at any scrap metal yards, just getting lead wheel weights is hard enough. So, I am trying to find out the current asking price for raw Lino type, so that I can buy what this guy has and pass along some to others at the same price if anybody is looking to make their own lead blends, like myself.

That's a great price, if that's the blend you are looking for. I need to do my own lead blends for all my different loads. That's why I am trying to purchase the raw Lino type, I like to create rather than buy a compromise for myself.

I just bought from Metalex as well....I paid aobut 1.60/lb for 4% antimony

I bought a 200 lbs of lino for $2/lb and thought I did OK. If you can get it for less you are doing well.

For trading I would trade 1 lb lino for 2 lbs lead.

well, a few years ago at the height of the economic meltdown, some people were selling out...
still I had to buy 100lbs
it looks like all lead sellers are selling by the "pig" (55-60lbs)

I totally understand that the foundries are making ingots-pigs for commercial clients and the prices from Metalex is the best in the Lower Mainland, but, with my almost non existent pension, I need to really watch what and where I spend on my shooting. I have no choice but purchase in smaller batches and make my own. The law of economics greatly affects me. Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated !
