The link didn't work for me either, nor the item number. I searched for Canadian sniper scope (turned up nothing) then changed to completed items and it showed up on ebay.com.
Kind of strange that the sight bracket is serialised to rifle no 74L0342. Wasn't this serial block for the Lyman Alaskans?

Good, thanks, I found it. :)

That scope belongs on a 90L 1945 LB T rifle.

The mount is from an earlier time...they do not match.

I believe it was the first 300 numbers after 74L0000 that were used for the TP Lyman Alaskan snipers.
Interesting that that s/n comes so soon after. The TP mounts of course were totally different.

I've never seen an electropenciled C Broad Arrow or Maltese Cross like that but who knows?
Other's comments welcome.

As for it being converted for use on an L42A1, that's interesting.

It's a missnumbered bracket, it should be numbered 71L0342.

A few years ago this subject came up and there seemed to be several 71L###X rifles with matching brackets numbered 74L###X

Several early LB brackets I've seen are hand numbered with the last 4 digets of the rifle

I'll check to confirm, but I believe I know where TP 74L0342's bracket may be...

They have an Israeli mt and #32 scope on there now as well.......mind you everything is RARE on E-Bay even Weaver tip-off mts....................Harold

Electro penciled Cdn markings are Kosher....and without opening the scope to check the diaphragm no way to tell if it is indeed a L1A1 converted scope. Parts for the L42 were a mishmash of kit ..both scopes and mounts. NEVER take for gospel the numbers in any book as no one has the definitive answers. During the 60's this stuff got a major refitting and even during the war some kit got mixed and restamped. The markings on the L1A1 scope do look correct and I'd personally give the scope a 90% plus rating of originality, but without opening it ...the 10% question.
The Israeli scopes are interesting and have one on the bench right now. Not a converted British scope put purpose made in Israel and NOT by Nimrod as most believe. Just waiting to hear from the company now. They are not the nicest scope to work on I can tell you... SARCO sold off a pile in the 80's and they are starting to surface now. I'm going to do a photo essay on one shortly.
Stay tuned........

Thank Gawd that SOMEBODY knows about these things. I see one, I just stand there with my mouth open, catching flies.

Wheaty, looking forward to that photoessay; it will be great for me and other telescopic illiterati of my ilk!
