.38 special bullets loaded into a 9mm cartridge...

I have been also thinking about trying some .357 bullets to reload in my 9mm.

I like that the article says that the recoil seems a bit softer. I wonder how accuracy will be.

I've done it several times, berry's 158gr round nose work perfectly, they are just a bit long. I've also tried my own 158gr cast and some jacketed 158gr TC but those didn't feed very well in my glock so i use them in my ruger blackhawk convertable.
 
38 spl bullets are .358 diameter in lead and will be hard to fit into a 9mm case and less likely to chamber. Yes the .002 larger will have a effect. What will be yours to figure out. Yes I have tried it with mixed results. It is your gun and fingers so it is up to you.

When using lead bullets it is very common to use .357 diameter projectiles in the 9mm. I and thousands of others have loaded probably millions of .357" sized bullets in the 9mm so no, it won't make a difference. The trick is to properly bell the case mouth before trying to seat the bullet.



Would like to experiment. Just worried about the longer bullet engaging into the rifling...

The bullet should not "engage" into the rifling at all. No handgun bullets should be loaded so long as to engage the rifling. I suspect you mean the bullet "bearing surface". And I am not sure how a longer bearing surface would have any effect on the load?
