Glock 34 USA vs Austria

everything that i have read on the subject, which has been considerable because i just got a brand new gen 4 17 with a USA made stamp, has said that there is no practical difference. Just the stamp is different.

on a technical note, my understanding is that instead of the traditional Glock finish, all USA models now have a melanite finish on the slide and barrel due to the fact that the finish used in on the austrian made ones produce cyanide as a byproduct.

i also understand that melanite is superior as it treats the metal on a molecular level, as opposed to just coating it (don't quote me on that part though).

The finish on my USA Glock doesn't stand up to holster wear like my Austria finish Glock does.

I had the same issue when I owned a Gen 4 17, had wear marks within the first few days, unsure where it was made though. My old Gen 3 34 finish is unobtanium, 7 years of holster and floor drops and still hardly any wear

I've stuck with all my glocks being from Austria. I'm not saying there is anything wrong the with USA glocks. The Austria made hade pass the test of time. So stick with it. Lol

As far as I am aware both melanite and tennifer are applied to the bare metal then another finish is put on top. The older finish that glock used had a teflon like feel with an orange peel texture, the newer one that I have on my current glock 19 has more of a chalky parkerized kind of feel. It does show wear very quickly but the metal components are still protected by the melanite or tennifer so its just a matter of aesthetics and preference.
