Remington 700, I think im hooked

-The "3 rings of steel" you keep mentioning does not exist on the howa even though you think it does. On the remington the extractor is encased in the bolt head. In the case of a catastrophic case failure the gases force the bolt nose out to seal with the counterbore in the barrel. Your howa does not - because (you guessed it) the m-16 extractor cut doesn't allow it to seal.

But of course you know all this. And still think it's a remington because of the bolt nose. lol.... Keep digging. I would love to continue this battle of wits, but you are obviously unarmed.

Awww bro.....does it hurt? Does it sting a little when you are wrong? Do you even shoot bro?

Hitzy, I've seen that reference to "Three Rings of Steel" on Weatherby's site, and I think it is marketing taking a bit of liberty with Remington's original ad for "Three Rings of Steel". In the Remington case, there really are three *continuous* rings of steel around the case head. The Vanguard bolt has the inner-most "ring" milled open to accept the extractor. Yes, the extractor is steel, but the nose of the bolt is no longer a continuous ring as on the Remington action.

That's my take on it, but I think at this point, we are starting to split hairs.

Hey, feel free to call up Roy Weatherby and tell him he's full of ####.... :)

I quite like Roy and his firearms, so I wouldn't be inclined to insult the man. As I said, it's splitting hairs and marketing tends to bend the truth a bit. I'm not a mechanical engineer, but I believe in a pressurized environment, gases take the path of least resistance so any weakening of the "ring of steel" could be significant. It's whether the M16-style extractor is actually a weak point that I was curious about.

Don't bother, you will have better luck explaining it to a fence post. He can't argue with any of the facts so he keeps changing his arguement trying to find some shred of stupidity to argue with. He doesn't understand what a "ring" is. If he looked up the dictionary definition of a "ring" he would understand it's continuous/unbroken. But I guess if howa says it has 3 rings of steel in their promotional poster, it must be so. Lol

The 700 action is designed to contain gasses and vent out the bore basically, there is very little secondary gas venting other then that. I can see the argument adding a Sako extractor sabotaging this and allowing gas to blow back on the shooter.
MK V and even the Howa/Vanguard have the containment feature as well as excellent venting if gas does blow back.
Savage 110 believe it or not is also an excellent gas handling action.

Again, feel free to give Roy Weatherby a call and tell him he's full of ####, knows nothing about the rifles he sells, and you know so much more about rifle designs and you even got a gold star on your comprehension skills from your "mommy" cuz ur sooo smaert.
They make the same claim about the MK V which has the same style of extractor....

It's OK to be wrong bro, it doesn't make you a bad person.... Makes you a bit of a vag that you can't admit it though, but whatever, I don't live with you and have to put up with your whining, lying, and other bull#### lol

Roy is dead little buddy. But please, by all means keep showing us how bright you are. Just remember to put your helmet on before you go outside.

Oh and what exactly does any of this have to do with your original claim of the howa being a remington with improvements?

Weatherby also uses the slogan “Nothing Shoots Flatter, Hits Harder, Or Is More Accurate®” must be true, because they write it on their website. Lol

Please keep going, you're really teaching everyone so much today.f:P:

***My apologies to the OP, I should have known better to try and help the simple. Sorry for the thread hijack. I'm done sinking to his level, it's pointless.***

Well at least you know when to admit defeat, that's a good start in rejoining the human race.
