My new Norinco JW-21 Lever

I've got the JW-105 in .223, it shoots nicely but it isn't half as nice in quality as that lever.

Have it looked over by a good smith..one members here blew up after only a few rounds. Has to do with the way the barrel was drilled and pinned as it let go there. Likely drilled through or just a few thou shy of the chamber.

These Norinco levers were selling for under $250 if my memory serves me correctiy, but the new stock reflects a 40% increase in price due to the Canadian dollar as it does to all imported goods. shoulda woulda coulda....

shoulda coulda woulda is right! Cabelas (in Barrie) had about a dozen Henry 22lr's in the rack last fall, for $299each…..

I paid about $310 for my Henry at mil arms last 30% off sale!! The Henry is ok for sure but like others have said, there are pot metal parts inside and I found a good few sharp corners etc, the lumber on mine is just ok and the bluing on the receiver seems to be really nice lacquer or paint but not sure! My young fella likes it and it is accurate enough, but I wouldn't buy another one! YMMV.

That is too bad, not great quality control, I really like the internals on the pics, the looks better than the Henry, well maybe not better but stronger. However if QC isn't there, all the steel in the world may not help!

That's to bad , I hope no one got hurt ! Last year at the range a guy tried out his brand new Glock 45 , first round and the gun blew up ,,,,, cuts and bruises only , he was lucky ,,,, there always seem to be issues with every brand of fire arm , NOt all time ,, but once in a while , little things are not quiet right ,, small things and up to the point that the gun has to be replaced by the retailer because it cannot be correctly repaired . It does not seen to matter the price range , it just seems to happen a bad one sneeks out the door and no one spots it ,, that with pretty much everthing manufactured these days .

As with all things , some times there are lemons with in the truck load of apples . We have seen this when one gun company get bought over by another and cost cutting by the new owners sometimes results in lower QC and less than perfect items leave the factory ..

Norinco is no different , I have had Many M305's , of all different years , some were better than others in fit and finish but they all went bang and were pretty accurate and no real issues were found but with out fail the insides were rough ....

I suspect some their rifles are made in different plants with in Norinco's vast complex of firearms manufacturing , as some seem better than others . None the less , tool marks and milling marks are pretty much the standard on the interior of these rifles and everyone pretty much knows that . Perhaps the exception is the SN522 , it seems to be a cut above the rest for fit and finish ,, for what I have seen .

All that said the Norinco 22 cal rifles I guess are the poor man's / entry level into 22 calibre rifles , bolt actions , semi auto's , Lever actions , target , ect .

Here are a few of my diamonds in the Rough ,, I would sell not any of them , they shot far to good for their price point .

I guess I could have bought one CZ Lux for what I paid for these 3 NIB ( with out the scopes and rings / bi pod )

You use to be able to tell a Chinese knife just by looking at it.... Then they got a little prettier and you had to cut something to find out if it was Chinese or not. Now you can hardly tell that a knife was made in China.... Even the price is American. Only tell is when you go to take one apart the ####ing screws strip immediately lol.
I think the problem is even if you had a Chinese firearm that was 100% as finely fit and finished as an American/Japanese/European firearm, and they were priced the same, 97% of buyers would avoid the Chinese one....the 3% that buy it would be of Chinese origin.
So no dealer is going to risk spending more money having them fit/finished better and be stuck having to retail them at the same price as well known brands.... Chinese made will always have that stigma of being made in a high school shop class, because that's the only way they can sell them here....well below retail of similar guns.

Your spot on !! No question about it but the Nornico 22's can shoot .

Funny thing is .......... all the Apple I Phones are made in China and people around the world , pay top dollar and are happy to pay big money of one even if they are made by sub standard wage paid employees ..... life is funny . ................

I've had just about every Nork model at one time or another, 1911's in 9mm and .45, 2x CQ AR15's, 2x M14, JW25, 2xJW15, 2xNS522, early factory 26 SKS, probably others I have forgotten about. Most are gone now, have a few of the .22's still.
Apple is cult more then a product these days....people don't even know what they are buying and they pay out the ass for them. Specs are about the same as a 3 year old Android when they release a new improved iPhone... It's insane lol.
Wife and I both have Samsung S4's, same models, mine is 2.5 years old and made in Korea and never had an issue. Hers is 9 months old, made in China, and has died twice.....

I don't own a cell phone , carried 2 for work for more than a deck aids , Nothing but trouble lol.

I have had 10 + M305 's and 5+ Norinco rim fires , all the M305's are gone , love them but I am back to my passion of 22's .

I am sure if the ability to purchase higher end models was with in reach , I would consider them as well , we do with what we have and make the best of it .

I am glad you can afford 2 cell phones and by the sounds of it very good ones .

All the best buddy , no ill will intended , sorry if it came across that way .

Not at all....the 2 JW15A's shoot and function very well, they don't even look half bad. The 2 NS522 are quite nice all around with very few tool marks anywhere on them.... Fit to the stock is pretty bad, but these look like they were stocks originally intended for EM322

You don't buy a Norinco's as a 'collector' you buy a Norinco for a 'shooter' and the ones I have do that job superbly ..Funny thing is mossbergs and even Cooey were once in that same catagory...(all though I doubt Norinco's will ever achieve that status, mossbergs were nicely finished and unlike Norinco had hardwood stocks you could refinish)

My JW25A has a very smooth bolt right out of the box much better than my JW 15 bolt , it was very tight . Yes I agree the sn522 is a cut above , most likely a different unite of Norinco that made them .
The SN522 stock was a Quick fix to a problem , barrelled actions with no stocks , as these actions were for the US Market where walnut american stocks were to be applied by the importing company . My still has the american company's name stamped on it . Due to the sudden ban these un stocked rifles got shelved some where . I guess some one came up with a quick and easy fix with stocks that had already been produced or were easy to make that's why there are so many washers installed in the stock .

Rantherbefishing , your right !! with out a nice hard wood stock and a better fit and finish out of the box they will never reach the level of Mossbergs and even Cooey and many others .

That said , I think the days of $200.00 22 cal repeating rifles will soon be over , I have started to a see a rise in prices , even in the Norinco 22's . As the old stock goes and new stock arrives , we will see a price jump .
Just recently I have seen the JW25A , new stock for that retailer , selling for $ 279.99 plus tax .................

I hope everyone has enjoyed my pictures of my new toy and my tinkering lol .

I would not be so sure. It wasn't so long ago, people said that about made in Japan.

In 1970, Sony published a Mission Statement for their company that said "By the end of the decade, Made in Japan will refer to something Fine and not something Shoddy". Today, Japanese electronics are counted among the best in the world.

Things change.

Well I don't feel so bad now that my JW-21 needed a little polishing after reading these two posts about a Big bore lever action that costs a great deal more and should have a high quality of fit and finish because they are made in the USA by a long standing major Fire Arms manufacture ,,,,

Those new early Marlins made by Remington usually need internal polishing and all the excess burrs taking out. I have done two of them for friends now, and it takes about 4-5 hours if done properly.

A professional gunsmith is a lot faster, can cost approximately $80.00-$100.00, depending on your gunsmith.

If you are mechanically inclined, or gunsmith inclined, you can do the work yourself. There are a couple of You-Tube Videos on this Marlin Internal Polishing....
