Good evenin gents,

I've been looking at Mag fed pump shotguns lately. Mainly for the quickness of reloading and larger magazine capacities with no restriction on size.

I found 5 so far and would like some advice.

The most well known seems to be the Dagger SAP6. 29 inches OAL, 10 round magazines with a spring assist that makes it unable to hold open and also doesn't lock closed. Only $700 so I like it alot.

Next is the Uzkon AS-46. OAL 31 inches, also spring assist with the locking "issues", but also a uncomfortably placed magazine button. $570

The Black Aces Tactical Shotguns. These are the most beautiful IMO. They seem to lock open and closed unless you opt for the spring option. OAL of 26 inches. In America it is not classified as any type of gun except a 'Firearm', so technically not a shotgun. Does anybody know if its considered a Shotgun in Canada? Their customer service seems to be ####, with some of their parts being made by children. They make a 20 round drum mag that I'd like. Prices are USD$700 for their cheapest and up to a few thousand.

There is a Sidewinder Venom Maverick 88, a Mossberg 500? conversion kit. Seems very well made for $650

Lastly there is the Derya Anakan AV-100. Not much I can find out about this gun, even the OAL

I find it hard to find information on these shotguns, I'm assuming because they aren't that popular? I'd opt for the Black aces but their customer service and the fact I can't find a Canadian supplier or Canadian prices discourages me.
Which have you guys tried/liked? Are there others I've missed?

As far as I'm concerned there is really only one choice: the Valtro PM5 (now called the Brixia PM5)
Here's mine:

It's modified somewhat.

Haven't had much time to play with my Uzkon AS-46. I mounted a TRS-25 on it, and an angled fore grip on it. Only had it out to the range once using the 5 round mag. It fed fine if pumped with "authority". If I babied the forward stroke, I did have an occasional misfeed. I highly recommend the angled fore grip. Makes racking the slide back much easier, and I do like the front lip preventing my hand from slipping forward. Mine was part of the original batch that came in with the barrel not threaded for chokes. Apparently the new batches are arriving with threaded barrels, and replacement threaded barrels for mine should be available soon.

I have some 10 round mags on the way. Will get in some more range time once they arrive.

Valtro/Brixia is a time tested and proven design. They've been making them for 30 years or so. I just cant help but see an Italian made proven design as being way better than some Turkish newcomer.

Haven't heard of the Valtro yet. Looks fairly basic and yet it costs $1000, more than the others. What makes you recommend them? Are they the most reliable?

$1000? They're $759 at Westrifle, and there is one for $640 on the EE now!

What makes me recommend it?

It's Italian made, and the action is buttery smooth. Brixia makes top-shelf shotguns; their trap guns retail for $1700-2700 each!!!!!! Solid metal construction unlike all the plastic on the Dagger SAP-6 and Uzkon. No stupid spring on the pump action like the others.

Downside: the mags are pricey and only hold 7 rounds, and the LOP on the stock is excessive for everyone other than the very long armed... With a little skill you can cut the stock down and remount the buttpad. With more skill (and tools) you can machine it and add a stock adapter like Steveo830 and I did.

Adaptive Tactical for the win.

Uses a Mossberg receiver. Well made.

Takes all Mossberg barrels and stocks. Unlimited choices.

Takes ten round drums, five round sticks, and now ten round sticks too.

Can also be easily ghost-loaded, for a total capacity of 12 rounds.

Doesn't try to feed rounds directly into the chamber like a rifle, which doesn't work reliably.
Instead the drum/stick magazine simply keeps topping up the magazine tube on the shotgun.

I love mine. Mine is the older version without the light rail on the forend. This video is the newest model.

$525 US-Dollars at Irunguns.

The big problem with the Adaptive Tactical Mossberg conversion is that the magazine adapter puts the forend much too far away. For that reason I don't like them at all, and I don't have short arms by any means.

A short stock is a big help. I use a Magpul SGA with no spacers. No problems pumping it for me.
But I can see where some people might have ergonomic issues with it. A valid consideration.

Wasn't there a problem with the adaptive tactical mags , in that the shells would pop out kind of easily if they were bumped or dropped ?

I can't imagine how? Contrary to most designs, the shells are actually locked into the magazine. They cannot fall out.
When you insert a magazine into the gun; A protrusion on the magwell goes into a pocket on the side of the magazine, which pushes a button to release the shells.

The only downside is if you remove the mag before shooting all of the shells in it.
You'll definitely lose a couple of shells on the ground before the latch re-engages.
