Anyone know what originally was on the Yugo SKS and Mausers wood stocks? What type of wood and how they were stained/oiled from the factory? I just got a Yugo Mauser and it's wood stock looks similar to the Yugo SKS's I've seen pictured. Anyone know?

Here's my Yugo M48, yours look like this? Mine still has some cosmo in the stock, have to sweat it out. Who knows what's been done to it in the last 60yrs... just wondering what the original finish was:

Obviously no wood stock is the same...

Anyone know?

Edit:

I'm reading on another forum that "European Elm" was one of the stock choices. Also looks like the grain is identical:

Someone said Beech... all the Czech beech I've seen has been light coloured and had non-aggressive grain. Maybe Serbian Beech is different. I guess I'll know more when I sweat the cosmo out and strip it.
