Hey guys,

I brought my new 7.62x39 SBR to the range yesterday to try but I'm getting some double feeds and stove pipes so I'm wondering if you could shine some light on the issue. The upper is a PSA 7.5" 7.62x39. The lower I built (spikes pirate lower, JP tuned buffer spring, spikes st-t2 heavy buffer, stag arms LPK, Geissele g2s trigger, phase 5 ebr v2). The mag I'm using is one that I purchased used because there is nothing available in Canada at the moment.

The problems occurred with Barnaul lacquered steel case and PMC brass cased ammo.

I'm hoping it is only a mag issue but it's my first build so I'm not exactly sure.

Thanks.

Have you tried to load and shoot one round at a time?

no i have not. i would assume i would only be able to check if i get stove pipes by loading only one round at a time? i would not be able to check for double feed?

if i still do get stove pipes then what would that mean?

Looks like a mag issue.

i noticed that the rounds sometimes sit a little weird (on an angle) in this mag. im not sure if all xcr mags have rounds that sit the same way since i have nothing else to compare it to.

all i can compare it to is that my .223/5.56 cartridges all sit straight in a magpul pmag.

That mag looks oldddddddd your feed lips are probably Fubar hammer therapy that mag and get a new one.

7.62x39 is very sensitive to the angle it's being pushed at during feeding in ARs I know the new CDP gen 3 x39 mags are working extremely well for all the dudes who run them back in the states not sure if they are available for sale up here now.

An issue I've had with the XCR mags is when they are loaded, the rounds push outwards (i.e. make the magazine wider by bending the metal slightly). This is probably why yours has so much wear on the sides.

If it bends to the point where the feed lips open up and you have erratic feeding, it's time to dump the magazine or as another poster mentioned you could try bending it back.

hmm what exactly do i need to bend back in place? i tried searching on google but was unsuccessful.

You need to check first to see if your gun actually runs. Load one at a time and see if it ejects and locks open. If it does that reliably, then the double feeds are likely a mag issue.

If it doesn't eject and lock open reliably, then you either need more gas or less weight in the system.

Diagnose and fix one problem at a time rather than two.

i ran 200 rounds (20 full mags) through it and it always ejected and bolt locked open after the last round but i will try running singles this weekend.

thanks for the help, guys.

i will have to keep my eyes open for new mags when they become available.

are there certain brands that i should buy or certain brands that i should stay away from?

The full length ASC 5/30s are pretty decent. Or try to find some new XCR mags which I think are also usually made by ASC.
