USPSA In Ontario

Someone needs to start a 3 gun style shooting group that has NOTHING to do with IPSC or high school politics. I can drive 2 tons of steel and glass down the road without joining the NHRA then I can put targets in a non-linear fashion without IPSC saying its ok.

When are you hosting your first match.... I'm super excited

See I guess people like myself who sometimes air dirty laundry are to blame for people thinking this way. :(

Maybe because of how active IPSC is and it being in everyone's face more often it is perceived by some as being full of "high school politics" and misery? Not even close.

I've said it before, it's the most amazing sport I've been part of. Depending how much involvement you have you end up meeting great people from all over your area, province, country and even the world.

Matches are plentiful and everyone at them is willing to help the newbies.

It's so easy to be blinded by insignificant things. I even posted recently about an issue I had. I'm completely over it and regret even posting it.

Stating an opinion, even whining is just that, stating an opinion. Airing our dirty laundry is natural and cathartic. It is called FREEDOM of SPEECH. It certainly doesn't take very much to get some people upset when this happens, leading some to name calling and slander. Hardly a gentlemanly practice, especially in anyone in a position of power/influence. This is nothing new in the sport, however, going back to day one, with corruption, cheating and thuggery at the highest levels. Back then it was only by word of mouth, rumour, very rarely in print. Now with email, texts and Utube it is a permanent record with everyone in the sport knowing of it instantly, the whole world watching and sitting in judgement on the internet.

IPSC is a lot about money and politics in my view... But doesn't mean you can't have fun, especially at the local club match level

Plus you do get to meet some great people.

As others have alluded to... You kind of get from it whatever you want. If you want to have fun shooting with friends, you can have it.... If you want to play politics, well, you can have that too.

^^^Well said Onagoth.

Every shoot sport has it's up and downs. Try them all and then concentrate on the ones you enjoy the most. I think the competitive shooting people are among the nicest, most genuine people I have ever met. Sure there are a few bad apples (as in anything) but the majority are fantastic.

Not for shotgun. It says bullet strikes.

In the part defining shroud, yes. But I'm not risking our range approval when the intent is clear. No matter how stupid the decree is.

Steel Reactive Target Guidelines
The following conditions regarding steel reactive
targets use will be placed on last page of your
Shooting Range Approval:
All steel targets must be bunkered for regular day to day
use and shrouded for competition use.
All steel targets shall be shrouded or clad with a covering
constructed of wood. This has been a CFO requirement
since 1999 and there has never been any exceptions.
Placement
-as close as possible to backstop
-at right angles to firing line
-rim fire rifle/ centre fire handgun > 10 metres from
backstop centre fire rifle > 50 metres from backstop
(section 1.10, page 28 of manual)
Design
-armour plate steel impervious to ammunition being used
(no deformation-AR500 or stronger)
-designed to move or fall forward to prevent backsplash or
ricochet
Shrouding
-shrouds or covers are designed to capture the bullet
splatter and withstand perforation
-all steel targets shall be shrouded or clad with a covering
constructed of wood and is designed to protect exposed
steel hinges, angled or plate steel, or other mechanisms
used to operate the steel target so as to eliminate
ricochets from bullet strikes to that portion of the target
array that is not intended as the striking surface
-this is to include bases, supports or stands used in
conjunction with the targets
-the shroud should be as close as practical to the steel
target
-it is recommended that the sides of the shroud be a
minimum 12" and the top 15"
-3/4" plywood is recommended, it can be lined with rubber
belting to prolong its use.
*For outdoor rifle ranges utilizing steel, please refer to
figure 45, page 113 of the Range Design and Construction
Guideiines.

I am just going to say this, I should not slam IPSC so much there are some great guys in it, I think some people see shooting as a team sport other's like me see it as a very personal thing. I don't like laws or rules that I see as irrational , I don't like people who wear guns that I see as "unstable."
I think highschool gets brought up because you got the football team guys (IPSC), the skaters (guys that float around the range) and the nerds (tactical guys) . When I told others I was doing IPSC i had a lot of old shooters say F that... I didn't know why and I went anyway. Now I see why, but these are the guys that shoot 50 cal, own 3 ARs, and want to fight ISL.
Me I just want to have fun. There must be room out there for alternatives?

IPSC has as much drama as you personally bring into it. Anyone can shoot IPSC without drama so long as you just go about your own way. Yeah, there are cliques of people that stay within their own groups, but youll find like minded people within the community.

Like a relay race?
One guy shoots a few targets and then tags the next guy in?
You can even change it up where one guy shoots pistol, the next rifle, and then shotgun.... I'm in.

What's wrong with shooting a 50?
Caliber snob-ism is ugly.
I guess from your comments you are saying you support isl?

Oh, and 3AR's doesn't even get your application to join the IPSC isl fighting squad considered these days.

Why do they only have 3 AR's? They can't be very serious!

Exactly!
rookies.

Membership in the ISIS fighting requires at least one RPD and a Ma Deuce. Anything else are just condiments!

If everybody in IPSC just goes about their own way there are no matches and there is no organization. Rules are not generally arbitrary decisions. Rules are to set boundaries, prevent incidents and to steer the game in the direction that the governing body likes. Don't like/agree with the rules? Join another discipline that has rules you agree with.

And if there are no organizations with rules you agree with, get involved, make your opinion heard, get on the BoD!

By saying "go about your own way", I meant not to get involved in the drama. As in when someone starts gossiping and going on, just nod and smile and move on.
