Another piece of gear stolen from me

sorry you lost your gear, lost several cameras over the years, the issue with baiting and causing injury is it costs you money, I love the idea of getting even with these scum bags but if you cause bodily harm you will get charged and how will that work for you? best setup a devise that blasts #### at them, setup a camera and enjoy

I had one stolen last fall after it was used to catch people dumping #### on our property. OPP took the pictures to the person and made them clean it up. Even though I had moved the camera, wrapped in white camo tape 12 feet up in a birch tree, the bastard s got it. A different dead one is going back this spring with a couple of disguised cameras watching it. I will post some pictures when done.

Check out chasingame.com, some great ideas there.

Any chance of posting pictures of the capacitor / hose clamp set up - I am not very electrically inclined and would like pictures and instructions to see how that is done.

yes indeed, I too would like to be armed with the knowledge of "how to", it will likely come in handy someday.

It never ceased to amaze me when someone is surprised at the loss of their gear when that gear is left unattended in the bush, sometimes for days at a time.

That's so low!! wow! I actually had a salt block stolen last year. Ok not as expensive as a camera, but was still frustrating, and why someone would steal that! at the end of the day after being mad, I said I guess they needed it more than me if they had to steal a $20 item!

Why?

If it's not yours, don't touch it. Simple.

Sounds like you are blaming the owner instead of the thief.

Why??? Because its a fact of life....leave your shyt in the bush, it may go missing! :(

To think its totally safe and secure is only being naive.

My father has a couple cameras set up on crown land. Someone came along to steal it, but must have realized it would be useless without the digital passcode to unlock the camera. Instead they decided to steal the 8 AA batteries and the SD card. Apparently they were desperate just to steal anything at all.

I wonder how many of these bastards that will happily steal items that are clearly another's property....will also happily knock down an animal they are not licensed to take??? ..or decide not to recovery an animal they wounded or was too tough to transport out..and instead went on to kill and tag a second animal...???? Anyone lacking in basic decency and honour must be suspected of this sort of behaviour as well.

Trail cams are always targets of theft. Getting a cam stolen from private property is the most maddening. Someone one day should make a claymore mine that looks like a trail cam...

I had a Quad stolen from my garage ...leaving something unattended in the bush I'd be surprised to still see it there the next day not the other way around.

I like the idea of a well hidden camera watching the trail cam. Nothing like catching a thief in the act and then confronting them with their behaviour. Might be an idea to have some back-up, depending on who the thieves are.

My thoughts too, unfortunately the would be thieves may look around and find that one too which leads to stolen camera X2

After losing 2 cameras in my area I got even and setup a sacrificial camera with a surprise attached. Basically used the flash capacitor from a disposable camera and used 2 metal hose clamps to mount the camera. Once they touch both hose clamps to remove it they get a shock. I did lose the one camera as the would be thief smashed it to pieces after getting a nice shock 3 times from what we counted on the other cameras!

Haven't had a issue since!

Be careful with this approach. Although I don't blame you, a construction worker (in BC I believe) was tired of his tools being stolen...so he rigged some mild explosive to his tool box. Next a$$hole to come along got a nasty surprise and hospital visit. Construction worker was charged. :(

When I took my trappers course, one of the instructors told about how he had trouble with snowmobilers using his trapping trails. So he set up a powersnare on the trail along a straightway at just the perfect height to snag a ski. He said next time he used the trail there was marks in the bush and tumble marks down the trail. He might have also lost his powersnare, too. Can't remember that detail.

I believe he got away with this because trapping trails are forbidden to be used by the public when the trapper is using them for his business. IIRC he had his trails marked that they weren't to be used for public use.

I believe its illegal to mess with his traps but crown land is still open to other recreational users...he sounds like a real ####, he could have seriously hurt someone.
