All hail the 300MTN!

Nice animals, EastBranch!!

Don't you just love that combo? A 700 Remington and the 300 Savage.

Sure glad that Remington decided to include the 300S in it's "Classic" lineup.

I thoroughly enjoy mine....so accurate, and so effective without beating you up from the back end.

Regards, Dave.

Love isn't a strong enough word! I'll never need another big game gun, that's for sure. The 24" Classic sitting at home in BC killed a whitetail this fall as well. Every time I pull a trigger they make me more confident as a hunter and shooter. I know we aren't talking about anything ground breaking here, but the .300 savage just kills em dead. Everytime.

Nice rifle! I'm glad to see your success with the 130 grain TTSX. I plan on using those for my go to load in my finnlight in 308. I've loaded a bunch up for testing. Hoping to hit around 3100 fps but might be tough with a 20" tube.

You just necroposted your own thread. Well done sir.

Now go kill something else. Caribou are still open until the end of the month...can you still get a tag and get over to the Richardsons? They should be on the way back.

Looks mighty fine!
But why a 300 Savage over the 308 Win.? There would be a definite velocity advantage using the 308 and easier to find brass.
Either way I'm sure it will suit what ever game wanders into range.

I assume because he likes it :)

But it's a good demonstration of how new bullets have changed things. The 130gr TTSX from the .300 Savage will perform on game every bit as well as a 150-165gr cup and core or Nosler Partition from a .308 - well proven game slayers. :)

An update, the two other fine bulls that have fallen to the MTN:

Dec 2014, 130ttsx 2x @ 140y: 1 pass through lungs, 1 through both shoulder blades, recovered under off side hide

i was not convinced by the color of the stock but the august caribou on the rainy proves the effeciency of the light color.
could you share the mcmillan color?

Sorry boys didnt mean to raise one from the dead haha. Just had to chirp the bartell. 300sav loaded this way will do everything the .308 does at hunting ranges. The LR duplex on the vx2 2-7x33 makes holdover to 400 almost perfect. Tan stock spoke to me more than any other. Camo never much of a concern...any earth tone is good enough. Porcupine bou still in AK as far as I know, could make a run out west but I still have plenty of moose and bou left in the freezer so she's waiting until this summer to see daylight again.

I love the .300 Savage....but why do that to a limited run rifle instead of starting from scratch?

Why not ?? I'm all for making a tool exactly the way you want it if it makes it more efficient to operate.

Awesome job. Changed most of my 700's over to the GreTan pin/shroud. Highly recommend them.

That is very cool. Makes me want to re barrel my tikka t3 7mm-08 just to add a cool modern 300 savage bolt gun along side my model 99 and 760 pump. And I'm super jealous that your snowmobiling already! Might be a brown Christmas here in southern sask!
