My son and I were at the range today with his great-grandfathers' rifles. Top is mine - my father's father's Marlin model '93, 38-55 manuf. 1906. One of the ones stamped "For Blackpowder only".
Bottom is my son's Winchester - was my mother's father's - .30 WCF, manuf. 1896.
Today the Winchester had tighter groups, but will see about that next time....
Hudson's Bay Trading Rifle circa 1860 in 58 caliber smooth bore. When I received it the stock was cracked through in front of the trigger guard. It had been repaired once before and a crappy brown paint like lacquer applied. I managed to strip it and retain a lot of the original finish. The cracks were repaired and the barrel channel reinforced on the inside. The barrel says London on it and it has an old London view mark.
