Podolsk SVT-40 at leverarms

The guys at Lever are top notch. Spent a couple hours there this morning kicking tires and shooting the sh!t and ended up coming out with a few goodies. They have plenty of really nice shooter grade SKS' (one 53' Izzy refurb) and plenty of shooter grade SVTs (only one refurb '41 Izzy as well). The Podolsk's were pretty nice IMO with matching stocks and receivers, plumb bolt carriers, and EP serials everywhere else. One of them struck me as a little odd as it was an AVT stock matched with the receiver and a 4 port muzzle break. Is that pretty common with these?

They told me the three they had out on display were probably some of the last available in Canada as they and Marstar were the original importers...but I'm sure there will be a crate or two "discovered" in their warehouse once the ones they have on display are gone.

They have been low on quality SVT-40s for a while. Now is the time.

Any combination of features come on the refurbs as they are total mixmasters other than barrel and receiver.

It would have been nice to be in my position a decade ago so I could have started picking them up when they were light refurbs or original for the same price or less...but c'est la vie. I'm very happy I caught one of these before they disappeared.

This thread seems to have inspired a few people to buy one. Me included!
I was in the store today (Sat) talking to Blair.
He said there suddenly has been a rush on SVTs and Podolsk ones in particular.
They had filled internet orders for several just today, and had a few walk-ins also before I got there.

I ended up with a nice Podolsk.
There are not too many Podolsks left apparently. Probably about 8 or 10 in one crate when I was there.

Likely force matched during refurb.

I was the first one in on Saturday and got Blair to had pick a 41 Pod for me! Its a pretty heavy refurb with an AVT stock, 4 port muzzle break but the metals including the barrel and gas system are in very good condition. this thread inspired me to go and pick one up. Thanks OP for the bug in my ear! Now the SVT 40 herd is up to 8. I love this game ;)

I got there at about 2PM.
We went thru a few guns before choosing one with correct early 12 port brake and low serial number. (3 digits instead of 4)
The trigger assembly is stamped with the same number as well.

Was not the tooling from the Podolsk factory evacuated to the Izhevsk factory and continued to churn out thousands of rifles until the end of the war?

No, Podolsk factory did not moved equipment to Izhevsk. And no, Izhevsk had not been producing rifles until the end of war, it stopped in 1941 in favour of MN M91/30.

I see I really kicked the bees nest here! I have a passion for the Red Army milsurps simply because they are cheap, tough, and ammo is cheap. Also cool to own the father of the sks and grandpa of the AK47. I bought my first Svt off a fellow CGN member and haven't looked back...such a mean looking rifle! Always get attention at the range...just my simple wood and steel war machine, everybody wants to know what it is.

To everyone who bought from lever, i think a pic show-and-tell is in order. Maybe pics of other svts you own as well.

How's this for a Finn SVT-40 Rifle. What do they go for these days? I don't know what to do with her!

SVT-40 Tokarev 1941r Finn Capture, SA Marked

Самозарядная винтовка Токарева, образец 1940 года

Gluttony runs wild with the milsurp obsessed. All for one, none for all...

Its all about the hype ; it does not take much to get people to spend their money in order to be part of the herd.....I bet the dealers chuckle to themselves all the way to the bank....lol
