hey gunners,

i traded for this 858 and come to find that the locking lugs have basically beat the rails in the receiver into submission. this creates friction with the bolt and will not let the rifle go into battery. i am wondering if this is something that is common and more importantly if it can be fixed. pic below.

as you can see in the picture the damage seems pretty extensive. should i try to fix it or turn this into a dewat and pony up 1500 dollars for another 858?

its the tactical 2v. the finish doesn't look after market but i dont know for sure.

It's got a heat-treat issue. Most commonly seen on some that were commercially refinished in Canada.

Maybe a good welder/machinist could fix it up and re-heat treat the receiver, I don't know for sure. As it is, I wouldn't shoot it any more.

Wear on the rails is common but that looks like he blasted 10's of thousands of rounds thru it

You could try cleaning them up yourself, very slowly with a file.

Is there a hump of metals restricting the bolt/carrier from engaging??

If so file it down a bit and see if that helps

i guess thanks for the info? haha. if anyone knows of anyone that would take on this work and be able to get it right, their info would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of refinishing require such a heat treatment so it could soften receiver?

a while ago a company was doing some barrel treatment something like that i think , cant remember the name i think they went out of businesses but they kind #### up the process and ended up to make the receiver softer on a few riffle OP might have one of them

That's rough..

This is after several thousand rounds ^ ......

Is that warping on your rail towards the bottom of the pic? Looks all wonky.
