A friend has an Enfield tanker. The gun is a double action only. He asked me to find out if that gun can be converted to single/double action by replacing the hammer. So obvious question. Can it be? How hard is it and can I get parts? Where?

For what those things sell for it's probably not worth messing with. Sell it and get the non bobbed version.

Numrich Gun Parts Corporation is probably your best bet for obtaining a replacement hammer.

Unless he's attached to that particular one gun...

In such case he should remove/cut away whatever is attaching him to it and follow the above advice :p

That's funny cause I said the same thing.Downfall of human species is that of forming attachments that are hard to break. Especially when we get older.
Nevertheless I would like to provide him some useful information. Thanks.

Technically it is possible, however I recommend watching this video here to get a idea of what the issues he might run into if he does try to replace the hammer.

Overall it isn't worth it, could take a ton of time, could require some handfitting plus knowledge of heat treating, and Enfield revolvers aren't that expensive. Once you consider how much time, effort, and money (if you need to take it to a proper gunsmith) it requires, you would be better off getting one that is the way you want it in the first place.
